Today and everyday, we celebrate them and our law enforcement officers for all that they bring to our communities.

During Black History Month, we celebrate the Black Marylanders who’ve led the fight for justice—from Frederick Douglass and Thurgood Marshall to the scores of unnamed civil rights activists who worked tirelessly for better schools, equal pay, and real justice.

Our proposal to balance the budget will help build an economy that grows the middle class and gives everyone a pathway to work, wages and wealth. At the center of our plan is a policy-backed commitment to get Maryland’s economy growing again.

Over the last few weeks, I've been meeting with my colleagues in the General Assembly to discuss the actions we're taking to address our state's budget deficit, grow our economy, and create new pathways to work, wages, and wealth for Marylanders.

Our budget prioritizes growth. We can't build a thriving state if we don’t grow our economy. We're making strategic investments and modernizing processes to deliver services more effectively and efficiently, and making our tax system more simple and fair.

I've been all across Maryland,. Everyone agrees that Maryland's tax system makes no sense. Our budget proposal reforms the tax code to make it simpler, fairer, and pro-growth. And under our plan, nearly two-thirds of Marylanders will get a tax cut.

We are closely monitoring the aviation collision incident that occurred earlier this evening near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The State of Maryland and local authorities are engaged in response. (1/3).

@MDMEMA has raised its Emergency Operations Center to "Enhanced" status in support. @MDSP have deployed divers to the scene to assist with rescue missions. @MarylandDNR police are also on scene. There are no operational restrictions on BWI at this time. (2/3).

What the Trump Administration did yesterday caused instability and chaos. But I want to be clear that we are going to answer instability from Washington with clear, calm, and steady leadership of our own. Our commitment to our values and our people will not waver.

A government that creates chaos isn't working for the people.

The Trump-Vance Administration's actions could potentially cost jobs, raise prices, and stifle economic growth in Maryland. This is not what responsible government looks like – it’s chaos.

What we've seen from the White House today is not what responsible government looks like. Their actions have caused unnecessary confusion and instability across our state. My full statement on the Trump-Vance Administration's freeze on federal funding:

Tonight @DawnFlytheMoore and I have lit Government House yellow for Maryland Holocaust Remembrance Day. We must learn from this dark period in our history so we do not repeat it. Now and always, we stand united against antisemitism and hate in all its forms. Never again.

Anyone who suggests we can just cut our way to prosperity isn’t being honest. And anyone who suggests we can just tax our way to prosperity isn’t being honest either. Our budget proposal will grow our economy while making Maryland safer, more affordable, and more competitive.

The history of the Holocaust offers an opportunity to reflect on our responsibility to commemorate victims and honor survivors, rescuers, and liberators.

May the memories of those lost be a blessing and let us always speak the truth about the Holocaust, condemn genocide and antisemitism, and confront hate in all its forms.

Gun violence leaves lasting scars, but survivors show us the power of resilience and remind us of the urgent need for action.

During National Gun Violence Survivors Week, I stand with them—not just to honor their voices, but to reaffirm our commitment to creating a Maryland where every person is safe. Together, we can save lives and end senseless violence.
