NASA claims the software is there, but when something goes wrong, it is configured to fall back to human control instead of falling back to a second automated system.

I’ll never understand this point of view. In 2005-8 as SpaceX were testing the Falcon 1, I first saw a shy, nerdy, bad in public, engineering geek with an abstract sense of humour. I relate 100%, and to me he couldn’t be more genuine.
