For those that could afford it, dorm living at college was probably one of the last times there was this similar level of access to spontaneous community
I think it's not actually all that hard to have this straight out of *college*, but you also have to cultivate Extreme Agreeableness AND give up caring very deeply about non mainstream issues that could challenge anyone's sense of self
I sobbed to my therapist today about how I'm envious of girls who have a core group of girl besties they regularly hang out with bc I've never really had that 🥺 I wanna go to brunch and host girls nights but idk if I ever will bc it's so hard to make friends as an adult
CO2 rate from the downstairs crowd of the Artist Alley. I left rather abruptly as it soared past 2400 so this is taken from outside. The ceilings are lower and air exchange rate is much less efficient than the exhibit hall.

Never be afraid or embarrassed to be the only short humorless b*tch in a giant mask bc later on when I checked it, holy hell I didn't know the Aranet4 doesn't even go that far up. I guess everyone who didn't is getting the same "cold" or whatever

Brings to mind that clip where Hayao Miyazaki absolutely dismantled an animation team that proudly showed him a piece of AI generated animation as "an insult to life itself." Back then I felt he was harsh but this makes me live in that moment.
You said you couldn't hear me with That Thing On My Face? OK FEEDBACK ACCEPTED I CAN ALSO TALK AT THIS VOLUME. CAN I HAVE YOUR FIRST NAME LAST NAME AND IS A PAPER BALLOT OK? HERE'S YOUR FOLDER THANK YOU FOR COMING IN TO THE VOTE CENTER, BLESS YOU AND HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!

I am sure that OP meant well in this moment. But it landed with the crummy, half assed cloyingness of the Gal Gadot "Imagine" singing video. The ask for attribution made it even more painful.
I get a lot of stuff at Costco but didn't think that one day I'd also be able to pick up Novavax there too.
Pharmacist recommended that I keep moving the vaxxed arm or else "you'll hate me tomorrow!"

As soon as you clap on anything that could be considered fringe or cringe to your interests list, unless you're able to colonize it as a non threatening matter of course into the group chat you gotta hide that shit forever
Finally watched the masterpiece Barbie movie by Greta Gerwig. It was fun to coordinate a whole pink outfit for the occasion. I wore Angelic Pretty Japan's Milkshake Dot Blouse and Circular Skirt in pink and matched it with

The fear that I have is not only that I'll get covid but more that I'm the one whose fault it was that someone else got it. So when I mask up, I mask HARD to make a whole point that I'm the Most Maskingest B*tch in this room so it's not my fault you can't blame me

Unless it's already founded on agreement about an issue, cultivating a Group Friendship takes on navigation of complexity if you ever want to bring that group to talk about anything beyond Basic Pleasantries
Reminds me of the story of the American parent who took their daughter who was very very allergic to peanuts, to a trip to China, and the peanut allergy along with all these other previous food allergies did not show up while they were there
The americans are all posting their Euro Summer Tiktoks and once again talking about how the food in Europe is so much better/fixes their IBS/allergies etc xbut I just realised that for all their raving about food quality they're never like "we need regulations at home"

Finally got those Readimask post it note respirators; I rec practice before using them + bring an alcohol wipe in your kit because I could not get this jelly to stay on this side of my face. Watched my bangs blow around with my breath as I was stuck inside that MRI. Woops!
Fanime 2023 COVID-19 vaccine check and pre-registration badge pickup, a complete smooth in and out in a mere 35 minutes at Friday 12 noon. I didn't stop walking at any point. The wristbands look sturdily made and waterproof although a bit long.
I'm still -ive on a RAT but my mom is now +ive. My dad claimed that his test was -ive in the early AM and WENT OUT FOR FOOD while we were all sleeping. He did a RAT again in the PM and it is now +ive. I don't know what deity to scream to. It's a free for all for COVID19.
I'm thrilled to announce that I have been awarded support from

I should at least pat myself on the back for managing to bring IRL non-aware folks all the way to the 9th month of the 4th year of the pandemic before they said to my face that eating outside to include me was straining the limit of the value of my friendship
I feel such pangs of despair when I look back on the unity of 2020—most folks masking, caring about our neighbors, in it together, making PPE, honoring the dead—it was Us vs. The Virus. And then we were DELIBERATELY divided, traumatized, gaslit, & robbed of it all, for profit.
TIL that the virus -> permanent neurological disability has never been just about Covid, there's been the Chickenpox to Shingles, Mono to MS, Influenza to Parkinsons pipeline all along... wth

One of the greatest lessons from COVID should be how dangerous it has been to our health to be willing to “live with viruses”. Mono can become MS, Chicken Pox -> Shingles, Parkinson’s wasn’t in record before Flu …

And maybe me too, even? Hopefully a reduced amount of viral load will have helped. Folks working in tuberculosis wards can make it work with N95's so I'm leaning kinda hard on my 99% Pro filters to help me keep being visible in community, in public
There was an informal poll on the San Diego Comic Con reddit re: COVID-19. SDCC2023 ended about 3 weeks ago. Out of 876 votes, 102 marked themselves as "Yes I tested positive." 231 voters indicated that they either tested positive or felt sick in some way.

Some folks incorporated the mask right into their costumes. This San from Princess Mononoke costumer is one of my favorites I saw. The warpaint is recreated right into the face mask underneath the battle mask. Masks for days!

Finally pulled the trigger on prescription safety glasses from Optical Factor. The huge retro cateye shape with tortoiseshell print is super fun. This Harley model is a bit bigger than expected. The bottom does touch my cheeks, but at least the frames don't slide down my nose.

What are people's experiences like with the Jelli M1 mask? It looks intriguing as a clear see-through elastomeric mask option that is 1. aesthetic 2. actually relatively affordable compared to other respirators. But how does the filtration and airflow hold up?

I'm hoping this mask design says: Look how fun a mask can be! + also: I'm nonthreateningly into rainbows and David Bowie imagery, please don't hate-crime me
@danaparish
Absolutely - I'd rather go through the discomfort and inconvenience of masking as hard as I can and in as fun a way as I can. If I'm wrong about masking, the consequences are merely sweatiness and embarrassment. The consequences of "I told you so" are just too high.

I caught omicron wearing a surgical mask. I'm never going below N95 protection ever again - I've even upgraded to walking around in the heat being stared at in an elastomeric. Never want that experience again - let them stare.
During the ride up the coast, my dad went early without either of us and spent time talking to strangers in the dining car unmasked. He also went unmasked during a portion of the flight despite my insistence AND adding the sipmask ... and tonight he's +ive! Nightmares
I am totally willing to put on another sweater and just sit outside. But we don't live as an island, especially when you do not have the luxury of time or $$$ income to do so- covid has made it so that we don't get to make our own choices re: our health and thus, our very lives
