Lumiere Cinema started in 2019 when former movie theatre employees took over the Music Hall theatre. Independent arthouse cinema.
#KeepLumiereCinemaAlive
Lumiere Cinema was started by employees who took over a movie theatre, the Music Hall in Beverly Hills. We are an arthouse cinema. COVID-19 has closed us for over 6 months. Somehow we have made it this far. We’re asking for your help.

We are really excited to announce that
@edgarwright

#LastNightInSoho
is coming to the theater on
#35mm
starting Friday November 26th! We want to make this a regular thing so even if you've already seen it come check it out again to support keeping film alive!
This is a cultural crisis when it comes to cinema. Day and date turns films into a TV movies, undermining any impact they might have on the audience. It’s a great self inflicted wound that Hollywood can still avoid by reversing course as we come out of the pandemic.
We certainly hope that when people come to see Miami Vice (playing this Saturday at 8pm) they notice we play indie films from all over the world on a daily basis.
We are so excited that Sean Baker (
@Lilfilm
) will be joining us for Q&As after tomorrow AND Saturday’s 7:30 shows of Red Rocket! In 35mm thanks to

We are still working on our self promotion game so it’s a little riskier for us but the feedback on this has been so enthusiastic that we’re going to do it.
It’s November 1st, we are still here, but have until the end of the month to meet our fundraising goal or else we’ll have to close. This is a plea to everyone out there who loves to watch movies on the big screen. To everyone involved in filmmaking who knows how hard it is.. 1/5

This whole narrative is very strange. No one has asked but we are doing just fine post pandemic, and we're about as indie as it gets. Not to mention if you compare box office figures from 2019 to 2021, there's not that much of a drop off. The audience is still there.
I’m seeing increasing numbers of filmmakers and critics on here who seem to be rationalizing why it’s “OK” if movie theaters die off, and it feels like a mass surrender to a narrative that they know in their hearts is untrue.

we want to remind you to support all the small businesses that matter to you. Because in this unusual year they are hurting so much more than in a traditional year. As an independently run arthouse cinema & small business you can imagine how much.. 1/5

not to sound like a film whore but thinking about how many brilliant mid to low budget films we could have seen come to life for that same price makes me feel genuinely upset.
once again thinking about cord's oscars speech.
Last night someone broke into the theatre and stole most of our concession stock. So at a time when we are hurting from being closed for so long because of COVID-19 and potentially closing at the end of the month as a result. Someone breaks in and steals what little we have. 1/3
We are proud to present, thanks to

We have KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON opening tomorrow. Great picture. You're going to want to see it somewhere that really cares about presentation. Our Theater 3 projector was recently calibrated to be at 14 foot-lamberts, the industry standard. Tickets at:
LA Friends: Let’s hope someone saves the Dome or ArcLight, but let’s also support other cinemas like the Laemmle’s, which have locations across the city, or the independently owned Music Hall. These places are so crucial for international films and smaller independent releases.
We have an open Friday night so we are showing Michael Mann's MIAMI VICE (2006) May 6th at 7:30pm on our biggest screen.

I try not to be too po-faced about this stuff but seeing Blue Velvet with an explosively giggly crowd it is much easier to see it the way Roger Ebert saw it. Completely suffused with ironic detachment, crudely voyeuristic and exploitative. Not the way I read it at all personally
East Los Angeles once had as many as 12 movie theatres. Today there are none. A reminder of what a community can lose. Lumiere Cinema at the Music Hall is the only arthouse cinema in not only Beverly Hills but the surrounding areas. Help us if you can.

First the ArcLight, now this. A crucial arthouse hub in LA. I've seen so may movies there, moderated so many Q&As, had so many glasses of wine & fun chats in the lobby bar. It's a fantastic venue with a top-notch staff and great snacks. This is tragic:

In honor of our Miami Vice screening (this Saturday July 13th at 8pm tickets at: ) we'd like go back to our thread from 2022 doing a deep dive into the film's complicated legacy...
Although when it was released it was met with some praise, special mention has to go to

for his review. There's something prescient about how his description of the film indicates just how unique it was and remains.
