If they have a nasty head wind, it prolongs travel time. Also, it wouldn’t surprise me if they are flying at a lower cabin pressure to improve tissue oxygenation. Lower cabin pressures affect fuel usage and may necessitate a fuel stop.

Yup. You can’t run ORs without nurses, housekeeping, etc. AHS won’t staff them, so they use private facilities that pay nurses bare min hours, no benefits, no guaranteed work days, and make them do all the tasks otherwise done by clerks and housekeeping.

Nope. There are more RNs in Canada now than at any time. The neglect is to the system itself. RNs won’t work in it anymore, because it’s overrun, starved, and the pay isn’t worth the abuse. It doesn’t matter how much you fund schools, if the attrition rate is 33% 3 years out.

And they aren’t filling them. Former AHS nurse here. As of February, DS imposed a hiring freeze. Positions vacated are not to be filled, save a few specific areas. All to save money for her “refocusing”. Reddit is full of RNs who have applied to AHS and never heard back.
