The beautiful Kathleen Keyes, who buried the last of her beautiful children just over a year ago; my brother's best friend.
If nothing else, be good to each other; we rarely know what sorrows, what hurts, losses, traumas or devastation they may be carrying.
This letter in today’s Irish Times is one of the saddest things I’ve ever read in the pages of the newspaper. Life can be unspeakably cruel. The letter also makes me feel infinitely privileged for all that I have.
Medics:
If you're not broadly up-to-date then you don't know.
If you don't know, say you don't know.
If you don't know, don't minimise or dismiss.
Saying "I don't know" is an honest, respectful response.
Giving out-of-date, harmful advice is not good enough.
