@BobHRoss @tomhfh M5 goes to Exeter and then becomes A38 dual carriageway to Plymouth, which is near motorway standard throughout. The A380 also branches off just past Exeter to Torbay and is dual carriageway. Converting to motorway standard would not likely increase capacity but could be done.

@BigBenInLondon @SGabardi1111 @EndWokeness Maybe they should have to work at the bottom of deep mineshafts because some people have to do that.

@matthewhodg @AndyRoden1 @WilliamBarter1 @philatrail You'd need a huge grid connection, probably much bigger than even the largest rail traction supply. Large aluminium plant territory, & the Scottish one has its own hydro station attached! I'm optimistic for short 'island hop' services, but I can't see how long haul could work.

@matthewhodg @AndyRoden1 @WilliamBarter1 @philatrail Like Greenford train charging, small airports might have accumulators to gradually build up energy from a DNO connection for fast charging moderate numbers of aircraft during short turnrounds. With a more constant load, large, busy airports would need major new grid connections.

@railnigel For such niche motor vehicle markets, it's likely artificial liquid fuels will continue to be available from renewable bio sources, a likely solution for steam on rail too, as coal simply becomes impossible to obtain practically or economically.

@railnigel 20118 used to live at Buckfastleigh on the SDR in the early 2000s. Another preserved diesel returned to the main line. Loved these locos. So simple & reliable. The entire wiring diagram fits on a single foolscap sheet.

@sainsburys To be clear, I'm not complaining about the experience at Torquay today, but rather the widely publicised announcement you are to close all your store cafés.

@serenetemper @grescoe S Bahn is underground in the centre, & branches out on legacy surface rail tracks. Trams don't run everywhere. Where they do, they're well integrated into the streetscape. There's plenty of attractive public realm. Also low private car traffic means less dedicated space for it.

@BW400CN @railnigel The climb out of Montreux is spectacular. A pity the train can't change gauge again at Interlaken & go over the Brünig line to Lucerne. The bogies can't accommodate rack pinions however, so it could only get as far as Meiringen.

@AndyEdwardsR14C @RAIL @SW_Help @Uber @seatsixtyone @BBCDevon Waterloo is also very convenient for changing to Southeastern services at Waterloo East to many parts of south London & Kent, avoiding a tube transfer.

@AndyEdwardsR14C @RAIL @SW_Help @Uber @seatsixtyone @BBCDevon Fares from Devon are often cheaper that way, especially more flexible off-peak tickets & if you can change at Clapham Jn, 'not via London' fares, to the Brighton line for example, are valid.

@CLondoner92 @diamondgeezer @dracos The 'Lanham Act' is mentioned, also US Federal legislation. Have we just become the 51st state, or was this written by AI? This is as fishy as Billingsgate.

@marcowenjones Farage knows he can't gain significant vote share with extreme racists & thugs alone & needs to pull in support from more moderate conservatives & some labour voters. That's why they're distancing Reform from 'Tommy'.

@_ChanFace A summary of the project here: Tunnels to be replaced by a large 'island' platform with 12 bays surrounding a central hall. All bays share the hall's stairs/escalators/elevators for access to concourse above. Much better for access & security.
