Generally and broadly, the insistence by mostly white ppl that ancient and indigenous ppl weren't capable of grand construction or high tech. Things like ancient aliens or Atlantis stuff to explain things.
The other day, Phoebe saw Olivia without her shirt and asked her about her stretch marks. Olivia explained what they were and how people get them and how hers were from carrying her babies. Phoebe absorbed all this and stated, "They look so cool! Like purple flames!" +
Today is Ezra's birthday.
We set aside a bit to take him and his 4 closest friends to mini-golf and bought food for 5 hungry teenagers. He worked really hard to clean our house.
All 4 flaked on him last night.
The truly absurd part is we were doing this for 3 15 year old boys who spent the majority of their time doing nonsense shenanigans outdoors and couldn't care less about untidiness.
@sewistwrites
OH! How could I forget!? That "Kids These Days" are lazy/rude/mischievous compared to older generations. Socrates was complaining about how books were rotting kids' brains and they weren't respecting parents in the BCE!!
Something that drove me crazy is the ACA was a R plan that Obama took. Giving insurance companies guaranteed middlemen status on healthcare is AWFUL. We should've gotten Universal Healthcare, not this monstrosity. While it DID help in some cases, it is such a bad system.
Update: if I join the most expensive gym in my area, they have one-on-one stretching evaluations, which is what I need, and it will still amount to half the price of having PT through my hospital network…
@natgrace79
Honestly, teaching sex ed was one of my favorite teaching experiences.
The young ladies in class absolutely loved hearing me talk about consent and ripping into the dudes who pushed back. I hope that was a good turning point for several kids.
@sewistwrites
I really find it unpleasant when people describe actions in tweets.
Like:
"How are you today?" *smiles and hands you a coffee* "Let's chat."
I'm not sure why but it makes me feel crazy.
I know we've made mistakes as parents, but stuff like that gives me hope that we can break the fucking calamitous cycle of body shame.
What's even more magical is that Olivia's burden of shame was lessened by that interaction. Her daughter's genuine delight in something she'd +

I read somewhere that those traditions of evangelism are designed to "other" those not in the in group. Because they experience rejection as the most common response, it reinforces only their fellow believers are safe.
Being kind deprograms this.

The Yemeni kid who said he was scared of the sky because of drones who ended up being killed by drones pretty much lives in my head.
@LauraRbnsn
YES!!! All of this!!!
I keep talking about how absolutely unprecedented the last 200 (and especially 100) years are in comparison to ALL OF HUMAN HISTORY.
Especially the gender role of stay at home person. Everyone USED to stay at home all the time.
To follow up, a lot of the reason for the flaking was that it was a bunch of 14 YOs who didn't communicate enough with their rides and families. 2 had prior family commitments and the other 2 had no rides. It's tough because teens can effectively bypass parents to plan now.
Could use positive vibes/pray/anything.
Ezra got stung like 20 times by wasps and we're just past the 9 year anniversary of my dad dying to wasps.
He seems ok, but it's nerve wracking.

's part if that was the only reason. Benz is legitimately terrific. And that's not a Homer take. Listen to the national media people who listen to all broadcasts and the consistently rate Jim and Dave highly.
Found out my little cousin (8yo) is cancer free.
Miraculous.
3 years ago, the messaging was they were saying goodbyes as he wasn't responding to treatments.
Kid had a heart transplant before he was a year old and rare cancer at 3.
Amazing.

I've tweeted about it before, but also this tiny slice of time was only available to white people and was a boom time due to huge global factors that had been mounting for centuries.

The juxtaposition of his two paragraphs is astonishing.
"Don't be slutty, or men will have unflattering thoughts of you!"
"All women are meat to be ejaculated into"
How much more unflattering can it be?
@AkilahObviously
A confluence of factors, assuredly, but the myth of rugged individualism blended with Dunning Kruger, meshed with active disinformation, with a dash of hubris, poured over a pile of bad healthcare systems, baked in the warm glow of one of the least healthy societies will do it.
@DanPriceSeattle
The reason I think this will never change is the same reason we stick with the Imperial system instead of metric. The US is convinced of its own superiority to the point that it will continue to do something stupid just because we've *always* done it this way.
@yeralizard
Sometimes, our laissez faire attitude about food/table rules makes us feel like failures. But my kids know how to make food they like and how to get it. I rarely can hit it that what I make for dinner will be liked by 3 adults and 3 kids. If I miss, they get their own.
Their urgency was because I had requested the MRI and the Dr was going on vacation.
No growth on either the tumors nor the cysts. The symptom worsening is most likely attributed to muscle strain.
I, legitimately, did NOT expect this. I absolutely thought the worst.
I'm meeting with my oncologist to go over my routine MRI and the anxiety is ramping.
Every visit carries the chance that I'm told the cancer is back/growing and I start spinning out that this is the time.
@janeelisabethh
As someone that grew up on the mission field: almost never. The exorbitant sums raided to fly somewhere to do poverty tourism could go directly to the people living their, doing the work already.
I agree that seeing other places and getting different perspectives is good, 1/

Baseball needs *more* show boating, not less. Have pitchers cuss out batters they strike out, have batters strut during home run laps, it's one of the toughest games in terms of specific skills, celebrate it.
@thepursuinglife
My stated reason is we hope to change it from within (we are seeing traction!), and because it still meets certain people's needs.
It's becoming less and less tenable though...
I'm honestly stunned.
The last month has been bad and the speed on the results was so fast. We genuinely thought it was the worst news.
I'm just shocked. Delighted, but shocked
@LShalott
I think the thing that was innocuous that was also kinda terrifying in retrospect was that baked into every little thing was the idea that we has seen TRUTH and everyone else was misguided at best and warped at worst. If you added Xtian to a thing, it immediately had more value.
Last night I was telling Olivia about giraffe sex facts and ended up laughing so hard at her indignant responses and then laughing at laughing so much that I ended up hurting my neck.
Silas' new middle school schedule means he gets on the bus around 6:10. He needs LOTS of time between waking up and actually being awake. He initially wanted me to wake him up at 4. We compromised at 5. It's still BRUTAL for us and today, after a restless night of sleep, I'm beat

Reminds me how Ruth Bader asked if a Supreme Court of just women would be fair, then reminded those who said no, that the opposite had been true for the majority of the court's history.
I've been doing remote University for a while and I'm going to be meeting people in a professional capacity on Monday and so I splurged on a barber. Looks sharp.
