Such a small world. I met a former ‘pupil’ who I taught in Primary 3 and Primary 6. She touched my life in many ways and today, continues to do so - she is the superb nurse caring for my grandson in the neonatal unit QEUH. Bursting with pride! Here’s to all educators out there!

Thanks Colin. Every time a person of colour discusses race equality they knowingly put themselves in a vulnerable position...exposing themselves to even more racist remarks ... why do we do this? Because as Afua has rightly said, it is OUR country and WE care about it!

Absolutely, this action needs to be explained explicitly to all teachers in Glasgow CC and beyond - steps to reduce some of the barriers their fellow BME colleagues experience during interviews for career progression. Yet again BME teachers facing pushback

Decades of initiatives failed in addressing chronic lack of BME representation in 🏴 education. Positive action measures STILL scratch the surface. Glasgow has ONE headteacher & 22% of pupil population from BME backgrounds. This targeted approach is late but indisputable.

Nonsense! Multiculturalism must be managed? In what way... by process of assimilation? Where young children are singing patriotic songs in your school to demonstrate their 'Britishness' but denied the right to connect with their diverse identities! Deeply concerning.
Multiculturalism fails when politicians cross their fingers and hope it works out, combined with rampant white guilt.
This combo results in Southport: an example of multiculturalism failing.
Multiculturalism must be managed.
Schools play a vital role in this.

I hope you will call in the issue of racial trauma experienced by BME doctors! It's racism ... the lack of retention and progression! A young BME female doctor who took her own life because of the racism she experienced!

Depends also on which language carries more value over others! Four Glasgow schools have the highest % of Urdu speakers and this language offer is in crisis - what future language planning is there? Sends a clear message: leave your language & culture at the school front door!
