Ran growth for tech startups, now run
@bedabedagrowth
: 1st class landing pages & CRO. 🤓 10 years in performance marketing & 75+ brands later = we’re different.
🔥Hot Take: Traditional CRO is not the *best* path for most brands under 10 figures.
It took me years to be able to articulate this in a way that makes sense.
But, we’re finally there… and I could not be more excited. 😎
So let me break it down.
I hate the “No thanks, I’d rather pay full price” copy for opting out of pop ups
I get the attempt at psychological leverage but... aren’t we all smart enough by now?
More like...
“No thx, your offer isn’t worth my email right now”
“No thx, it’s been 3 sec, I don’t know you”
Focusing on post-click marketing is the future of performance marketing. 🔥
Here are 4 reasons why you need to start focusing on your landing pages and sales funnels (basically everything *AFTER* the click).
👇👇
If you're a newer DTC brand & you don't have a "Best Sellers" section on your homepage/in your nav...
Add one.
Now.
Customers who are unfamiliar with your brand want to know what you do best.
'Best Sellers' provide a great intro to your brand & help them begin exploring.
Want a quick way to find a possible opportunity to optimize your site?
Open up Google Analytics > Audience > Technology > Browser & OS.
Check the conversion rates by browser.
If 2 browsers have similar # of visitors but super different CVR, time to check out that browser's UX!
A simple PDP test has been showing some incredibly unexpected & very positive results 🧵
First some background: Many ecomm sites these days, including this one, do a solid job of communicating free shipping thresholds. (ie: Free shipping $50+!)
But zero info on below threshold.
This guy's CRO agency is screwing him...
Brand owner to me: "After 2 weeks, the CRO agency told me the results are positive & we can move forward with variant 3 as it's 85% confident in increasing the AOV and average units/order. But it seems to me that there was not enough
@thedanielokon
This should be talked about more.
Brands want review sites on agencies. Agencies should then also have reviews on brands.
These are partnerships, things flow in two directions!
Yeeeeah buddy!
7.5% conversion rate from FB traffic 😎
(For context: They were previously sending traffic to their homepage & PDP with average CVR of 1.96%. Over the last 2 weeks their homepage & PDP average CVR = 2.48%)
I've done a terrible job of sharing most of our amazing results, so going to do better - starting now.
Super fun landing page for Every Man Jack with *massive* wins.
Conversion rate increase: +306%
ROAS increase: +1.84x
CPA decrease: -48%
Conversion rate optimization is like following around Scooby Doo.🐕
CRO isn't always about finding one change that will *immediately* make massive impact.
More often, it's about sniffing out the smaller clues that uncover the big wins.
It's 🍿 time... with a real example🧵
I know I've been quiet for a bit + most people don't care...
But for those of you who do, I promise I'll be back soon! (October)
I've been heads down with our agency during the days + coordinating my very-quickly-approaching, 3-day Indian fusion wedding during the nights! 😅
Stop 👏 using 👏 the hero section 👏 of your homepage 👏 to advertise temporary sales.👏
Your hero section is most important for first-time customers.
Returning visitors know you, a sales banner is enough.
Clarity of what you provide >>> the sale you're running for 3 days.
The results from the team's landing pages constantly amaze me & pump me up. Such a testament to what first-class strategy can do for performance marketing!
+440% increase in conversion rate on this LP versus the homepage these guys had been sending all traffic to prior!
“Ugly landing pages perform better than good looking ones” = is lazy advice
It’s one of those things that’s been tossed around & accepted
Wanna know the “why” behind it?
Ugly LPs focus way more on copy > design
It’s not better with bad design.
It’s better with great copy.
Regardless of anyone’s takes on attribution, I freaking LOVE watching people win.
This is a pretty special thing to have witnessed. From this email from Maxx in July ‘21 to today.
Lesson: Set big goals and chase them relentlessly.
Cheers
@aryehMaxx
&
@triplewhale
!
Why am I so obsessed with landing pages & conversion optimization? Well... just look at this.
Dedicated LPs have proven to increase conversion rates by 55%+ (vs sending ppl to homepage or organic product/service page)
+ the better your LP strategy is, the more that # goes up.
FINALLY...
It's been a few years (3!) since I posted my last YouTube video... but I'm making a comeback.
This one might be a bit controversial, but here's my take on the 3 biggest myths about CRO in 2024.
I've said it before, I'll say it again:
If you're prompting pop-ups immediately when someone lands on your site (or even based on where they are on the page), please do everyone a favor & reconsider.
99% of people immediately exit it.
Pop it at 50-75% of the avg time on site.
I hate to say it but
@Convert
has officially become the worst platform we have used for CRO.
Can't get a single, simple test to work properly - even just changing a headline.
We've been in touch with their support team for weeks, who've now 100% stopped responding.
Horrible.
1/ There's been a lot of debate & advice on here that "about" or "our story" type of content doesn't matter for ecomm sites.
I wouldn't even consider that 'best practice' advice, but if you do, another example of why best practices don't mean much.
Let's squash that with proof.
CTA button text should often be action-oriented & aspirational.
Instead of "buy" "shop" or "submit", here's a few words you can use to elevate your CTAs:
Get
Reserve
Try
Deliver
Send (My...)
Reward
Yes! I...
Grab
Elevate
Support
Font size could double your revenue?
Had a call with this brand a couple weeks ago & I pointed out their font size was tough to read + may be hurting conversions.
16px min is a good rule but some font styles appear smaller so you may need to go even further up.
Early results.
Hey everyone! 👋
Got a bunch of new followers recently (thank you 🙏) so wanted to introduce myself outside of CRO & landing page content:
- My name is Kanika (rhymes with Hanukkah)
- Canadian born, American grown
- Former FB media buyer (huge help!)
- Been in CRO for 7 years
Just heard about the craziest contract [hostage] terms from some agency...
"Client cannot meet or talk to other agencies during the agreement terms without written consent from the agency."
?!?
Not “believing” in landing pages because the first one you tried didn’t “work” is like not believing in ads because the first one you tried didn’t give you the ROAS you wanted.
@moizali
I understand what you’re trying to say here but this is bad advice.
For CRO - which is important for all e-commerce companies - “About Us” pages are very beneficial & can drastically impact conversion rates.
Not only CVR, but often LTV, repeat purchase %, + referrals too.
DTC Twitter tries to get every event sponsored.
Anyone wanna sponsor my dog's walks?
I'll throw a onesie with some logos on him for the right price.
Hell, I'll add a hat & shoes too.
Who's in??
🥹🥹 this means a lot, especially coming from
@itsConnor_M
who may be the straightest shooter on all of Twitter!
He always says it how it is, the good, the bad, the ugly.
There's a reason for why he crushes it with his million businesses...
Grateful! 🙏
I've had calls with 7 CRO Agencies/Freelancers this week.
@kanika_misra
was one that really stood out for different reasons.
@kanika_misra
had a deep understanding of brand, really insightful and didn't just give your standard 'quick wins'.
The ONLY one that audited Mobile.
What. A. Year.
Realizing that we have had some insane opportunities & experiences throughout 2022.
One of my fave being the teams we got to work with. 💙
This year alone, we have been lucky enough to share clients/work with:

@CommnThreadCo
Building your business cannot be passive. It won't just magically *work*. You have to work hard everyday to improve, learn, and continuously grow.
I check in with so many entrepreneurs to learn that they have made zero progress (or effort) since we last spoke months ago. Why?!
Apologies to anyone if I’m a bit slow to respond or circle back this week...
It’s been almost 7.5 years since my last doggo, took me a long time to be ready again.
But, please meet my newest love, Baloo 🥰
Ecom folks - getting crushed by iOS 14.5? You need to do this TODAY.
Create dedicated landing pages for all your ads.
We are A/B testing landers vs. product pages and seeing up to 50% lower CPAs.
I’m gonna do a thread on LP best practices - reply w/ topics you want me to hit!
A new month, a new YouTube video!
As much as Twitter may make you think that CRO is insanely easy, the reality is - it's insanely easy to get wrong!
Don't accidentally throw away hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue... 🥵
If you’re feeling imposter syndrome a bit from seeing all the amazing things here on Twitter...
Remember the Iceberg Theory.
If Twitter is the iceberg, than there are some things you get to see above the water...
But there is a waaay bigger chunk hidden beneath the surface.
Got into my email this AM: over 25 organic inbound requests in 24 hours
(This is a big deal for us, that much volume so fast has never happened)
Turns out one of our partners unprompted posted this in their 7-figure+ sellers group (& I found out from someone else)..
Grateful🙏
Cool Google Ad words landing page experience I came across from the men's skincare brand, Disco.
I talk through it here (sorry for allergy coughs):
(Ps. If you want to test an LP like this & don't have the resources to do it in-house... DMs are open 😉)
Finally connected with
@shanerostad
& a 30 min call turned into a 2 hour call.
We'll both be paying for it the rest of the day, but worth it!
Needless to say, Shane is truly awesome -- go follow him for some nuggets of knowledge about CRO, design, and more. 🤓
If I were running growth for a SaaS today, I would be focusing super hard on community-based channel sales.
If I were running growth for an ecomm brand today, I would be focusing super hard on building a strong, structured ambassador program.
It's a long game, but it wins.
Some of the people in this community are so damn amazing... I'm speechless
Biggest thank you in the world to
@dave_stickland
, who went so far out of his way to help me honor my late friend. He did it without a second thought & before I even knew it.
So grateful for you, Dave 💙
⚠️Attn⚠️: Everyone who has a pop-up showing immediately when a new visitor hits your site.
There's a high chance you're costing yourself conversions - email subscribers most often.
People are x'ing out immediately.
Wanna know a better timing formula?
Reply & I'll share! 😉
@JustinSaaS
I help folks who drive traffic to their sites/offerings increase their conversion rates through performance-optimized landing pages & sales funnels.
Bringing together intent + relevancy through conversion copywriting, UX design, & behavioral psychology 😎
Awesome tip from
@zachmstuck
today:
On when to use advertorial landing pages -
“When the product is on or in your body.”
Supplements, ointments, etc are good examples.
I’d also expand to: “When the product is on or in your body — or a loved one’s.”
Dogs, babies, parents, etc
2022 will be the perfect storm for my skillset.
For those of you who don't know, I spent the first half of my career in VC-backed SaaS before getting into ecomm.
Well, I'm officially partnered up... new Shopify app coming your way in 2022... 👀
More details to come 😉
@ZacharyLDuncan
You should read “When” by Daniel Pink.
Speaks about exactly this afternoon slump, the highs & lows of the day in terms of energy and productivity for most ppl, and how to maximize your own performance. 👍🏽👍🏽
Highly recommend!
1) Optimized landing pages can be fantastic evergreen solutions.
These pages will make you more money this month, next month, and even a few years from now -- and you don't have to iterate and optimize them nearly as often as ads.
Just implementing a bunch of “best practices” won’t give you the conversion rates you’re craving.
This is why we are so bullish on our foundation of conversion copywriting.
Emotions persuade. They do the selling.
Lego ex: “Not just what she’s made, but how proud it’s made her”
1/ It's come to my attention that most of you don't follow me because you think I'm cool... but instead to learn & get testing ideas... 😉
So today I'm actually going to share some fun testing results that a new Twitter friend sent over.
Try this on your LPs and your PDPs!
A while ago,
@mbertulli
tweeted about his 1:3:1 framework he uses with his team.
Any time a team member has a question or needs help, they have to approach you using 1:3:1.
1 problem, 3 solutions, 1 recommended solution.
This has been amazing for us to adopt. Highly recommend!
Shopify doesnt conversion optimize your website.
The collection page from some theme isnt tailored to your brand.
Landing pages will increase conversion rates.
Testing leads to better value props and stronger funnels.

99% of the gurus you see on X are lying about every single thing.
Do people not realize how hard it is to build an 8+ figure business? Do we really think these people have done it but are selling you all the secrets?
2024 is the year of critical thinking and guru extinction.
The truth is: CRO won't transform your business overnight.
But I can promise you one thing...
If you follow the process - and actually use the data & learnings - you will unlock levels of growth for your business that you have been dreaming of.
Really loved hearing
@ezrafirestone
’s worldview on
@andrewjfaris
’s podcast. (Understatement.)
Reframing how you perceive yourself, for one. Wanting to change is great, the catalyst coming from a place of self-criticism is not.
+ Optimizing for collective community joy, for two.
Bounce rate has been cut in GA4.
Now, you'll see 'Engagement Rate' = % of sessions > 10s, or 2+ page views, or triggered event.
Bounce rate = % of 1 page sessions with zero interaction.
So now if we can keep them for >10s but they do nothing, we're considering them engaged?
This could be a death sentence.
109% increase in users, 70% increase in purchases, -19% decrease in conversion rate.
22% increase in leads, -42% decrease in conversion rate.
These are real stats from a company we are currently doing a full audit for.
Not great, but common. ⬇️
Thanks
@drewmarc
🥹💙 Appreciate you & your amazing team!
(Ps. If you haven’t checked out
@Intelligems
’ new AI feature, Abie… do it. Right now. We are loving it at
@BedaBedaGrowth
!)
Focusing on benefits over straight features and descriptions is so, so important.
But!
Don’t forget to still explain what it is you are & what you do.
Recently I’ve seen a bunch of sites that share A+ benefits, but I don’t get it.
Community? Podcast? Newsletter? All? None?
Having a bias towards blame is a terrible look.
Terrible as a leader, terrible as a potential business partner, terrible as a personal partner, terrible as a human.
Clarify the problem, don’t attack.
Your goal should be a solution. That’s it.
Especially in public… 👀 woof.
@meetmikehiggins
Is he prepping the cars before pickups & getting them cleaned and ready before the next customer - all by himself?
Does he interact with the customers on pickup or use some sort of lockbox? (How does this work if they don’t pick up from his own house?)
@jaimeschmidt
Ridiculous. I see so many founders burn through VC money because there can often be such a huge lack of accountability.
And then they fail.
Bootstrapped founders have to be accountable or they die. People who succeed at bootstrapping make the best startup CEOs, IMO.
Do you sell relatively low priced items?
Does it make sense for ppl to purchase more than 1? (Are they already doing this?!)
Test this:
Instead of the quantity selector, add 3 pre-made options. Ex: 1 pair, 2 pairs, 3 pairs
Default to 2.
Measure impact on AOV, CVR, ATC, rev.
You know how a lot of paid media experts tell you not to feature your brand logo at the start of your Meta video ads?
It's because it takes up precious real estate that your customers don't care about.
This concept is exactly the same on landing pages.
Use. Space. Wisely.
It’s mind blowing to me that over a billion people on this planet celebrate Diwali & the vast majority of people in the US have no idea.
Or they’ve seen The Office episode but that’s it.
It’s non-Indian of me to complain but where’s our recognized holiday in the US? 🤔
1/ Don’t sleep on static images/ads!
This ad + landing page (next tweet has the link) combo I came across in the wild is awesome.
This image of the product is super appealing and - despite the copy not being direct response - I can clearly understand what I’m looking at.
It's such a bummer when people no-show on calls.
Calendars run most of our lives which means that we say 'no' to something else to make the time for a call.
We missed another opportunity or priority to make the time.
I get emergencies happen, but communicate ASAP & apologize.
