University of North Carolina: we respectfully acknowledge we are on the ancestral land of the Cherokee.
The Cherokee: please can we have our land back then?
University of North Carolina: absolutely not.
@bimboemoji
‘He told me he was air control’. Like he’s at an airport, guiding you in to land? I guess that’s harmless enough… *reads remainder* oh, oh dear God no.
@sanityexxx
It’s now an arms race between Jon Stewart and John Oliver to see who will be the first one to leave their family and shack up with a trans woman to prove they’re a good person.
@Amielouise79
I can see what you’re getting at. But, by your logic... you should never call a bully out, in case that bully commits suicide? I mean, if causing further hurt is your concern, why focus on changing the attitudes of the people being trampled on?
#BeKind
@lesthecroc
‘Are we going to stop treating anorexics?’
lol - the treatment for anorexia isn’t to agree with the patient that they could actually afford to lose a few more lbs.
@JoeEDwyer
Huw Edwards: I’m joined here by Lance Corporal Plummington III, from the Royal N-word division - Lance Corporal, isn’t the n-word offensive?
LC Plummington III: Goodness no, you see - that is what we call each other.
@BBCSport
That sounds reasonable - it is sad that trans people have to be excluded for the sake of fairness, but I’m sure no true sportsperson would want to compete with an unsporting advantage anyway.
@Bacchus_Baracus
@mrdavidwhitley
@jessphillips
Disregarding the referendum result is bad, but harming your own country and the vulnerable people in it is way worse. Rescinding article 50 is the best option for the UK.
@ColetteColfer
I listened on Spotify to the end of the Thursday show, and the whole of the Friday & Monday episodes, and there was nothing any reasonable person could object to hearing in a conversation about the areas of clash between trans rights & women’s rights. This is nuts.
@RealWorlding
If your definition of ‘genocide’ is being told you are not permitted to compete with an unsporting advantage Then I’ll take your definition of ‘hate-crimed’ with a punch of salt
@pressgazette
Always enjoyed her columns. A passion for movies & fashion & culture more broadly shone through on the page- and her interview subjects were always interesting as a result. A strong voice against misogyny & antisemitism too. Big loss for the Guardian.
@Jickymonsoon
@EddieBurfi
This is a hilarious clip - that is why the audience laughed and the interviewer laughed. Don’t take it so personal, lad. Let folks post their clips and ignore the ones you don’t like.
@staidindoors
I do think rich people throwing their legal weight around sucks. Although, I I think people chatting shit about her sucks too - like, she doesn’t have to just take all that.
@MrBrendanCox
Can’t believe the BBC reported this story on Today Program by telling us the New Zealand Prime Minister’s position, and then the NAME OF THE TERRORIST.
@8889Ro
Hey - I’ve got wonderful news for you: she didn’t say trans women are predators. So there is no need for you to be upset. What a good day. Sometimes this website can be good. No need to thank me 😇☺️
@EmmaSzewczak
Is that what happened? Didn’t they threaten to destroy some stock or something? I don’t think you should get fired for expressing opinions on social media, but burning books in a book store is gonna get you in trouble.
@WillThunder1
Validating the delusion that there is a a huge anti-trans movement dedicated to the literal eradication and genocide of trans people isn’t kind, it just gets folks worked up. Stop being a ‘good ally’ And start being a good person.
@AnnelieseDodds
This is like American politics where an extremely questionable rider (self-ID) is tagged on to a popular and logical policy (banning conversion therapy).
@MadsYork
@HadleyFreeman
You’d have thought that ‘dead-naming’ couldn’t occur BEFORE transition. I suppose it is ‘they were ALWAYS them, on the inside’, but it strikes me as akin to hearing a eulogy referring to the deceased as having ALWAYS been dead.
@JTibballs
@BBCNews
Why can’t trans women just be chill? They could just say ‘we won’t compete in women’s sports, that would be unfair; and we won’t encroach in women’s prisons and shelters either’ and everyone would be happy and leave them alone.
@adz2710
@LBC
@NickFerrariLBC
It impacts women’s rights and trans rights. Both are important, and there are areas of clash between them that cannot be discussed if you’re falling at the first hurdle of being able to define what a woman is.
@hiabell
Do you sincerely believe that the advantages of male puberty can be overcome by Thomas’ rivals ‘training harder’? Didn’t Thomas smash the previous record by 36 seconds? Not hundredths of seconds, whole seconds. Do you really believe that? ‘Train harder’?
@Mcbeath_on_sea
Yes it does, bro. Us lads have gotta take this one on the chin. Women don’t need to put
#NotAllMen
on every tweet - we can just be mature enough to appreciate that males, generally, are more of a threat to females than vice versa. That’s not a personal attack on you or me.
@ThatDamNic
@ladbible
No one is saying trans women don’t lose some performance through treatment, but they are saying that the performance isn’t equivalent to natal female competitors. As such, they have an unsporting advantage.
@Michael37615957
They undeniably have a physical advantage. Where they place doesn’t matter. If a sprinter doped and came in last they still would have cheated. Their participation is unfair.
@GreenPeterU
@leakylike
If you really wanted the Greens to win you would listen to people’s concerns. If you do not engage in good faith, then you are just virtue signalling meaninglessly. Being seen as virtuous is more important to you than the environment.
@FernRiddell
Wow. The hate, it really… it really is obvious and apparent, leaps off the page it does, the hate (is this, like, a magic eye picture or something? I’m used to seeing pics of people with machetes and guns threatening to kill trefs).
@evanandpiesayhi
@RahulKohli13
We mostly just want rugby to be fair & safe & also for rapists not be able to identify into women’s prisons or shelters 🤷♀️
@DatCatDer
It is so weird that they can interpret ‘punchline’ or ‘nail to the wall, legally’ as literal threats of violence, but not when someone has an actual knife or baseball bat or gun explicitly stating they are going to harm women.
@AliMortell
@TulsiGabbard
If I were a trans woman I would simply step aside, out of consideration for my sister competitors; and out of respect for the integrity of the sport. But that’s just me, the world’s greatest feminist and sports person.
@wohyeah_wohyeah
@nathankw
And we don’t pretend all aspects of the debate are closed when they aren’t, otherwise we end up with people like Lia Thomas ruining women’s sport.
@Strava
Strava has access to the data of literally billions of run & cycle routes, I’m sure if there was some disparity between AFAB body & AMAB body performance they would be able to tell.
@JodieJWomanXX
@fairplaywomen
Misogyny at the women’s conference?? Whatever next? Discussing racism at the conference for black people? Ableism at the conference for people with disabilities? Where does it end?
@TheMcKenziest
Please don’t beat people up for wanting sports to be safe and fair. 😔 I appreciate it is harsh on trans people, but it is fair - and sports is about fairness.
@Silken_Roses
I wonder if he resents his dependence on his mother and is lashing out at all women? I say with literally no idea about psychoanalysis, the lives of disabled people, or women.
@FiendishPenguin
It isn’t *just* politeness though. There is a difference between somebody not commenting and expecting somebody to actively lie. Like, I wouldn’t comment that a morbidly obese person was fat; but I’m not going to say they are thin because they’ve asked me to.
@max_munchy
@sullydish
If society is bending over backwards to give one demographic preferential treatment at the expense of another, then that isn’t punching down.
