@AndyMasley It's just an incorrect ev calculation for swapping. If X = what you have, you can't say the payoffs for swapping are X or 2X. Because X depends on which state you are in. If you account for that there is no paradox.

@robinhanson I agree about rudeness online but I find people to be kinder than they used to be in person. When I started in the financial industry in the early 2000s it was commonplace for traders to literally scream profanities at subordinates. Now that would be totally unacceptable.

@mattyglesias Probably 90+% of applications come from that group. Oh well. The universities have said they want diverse classes for decades. How can you achieve that other than by pushing down the common groups and bumping up the rare ones? Good thing there are a lot of good schools.

@yacineMTB 6 times is 64X so that'd be going from $50K to $3.2M. I guess it happens but that is very rare compared to people who just wear out their welcome after 18 months and are still making $50k after 6 jobs. 2 very different groups of people, easily distinguished in practice.

@TheStalwart I'm impressed with their automation efforts. The ordering kiosks work well. The voice recognition at the drive through is like 90% there. The robot drink dispensers are pretty cool. I'd love to see them automate the whole restaurant in a few years.

The UK does and there black people make up 3% of the population and 13% of the prison population. That's a similar level of overrepresentation to what you see in the US.
