Reddit is flooded with students asking various subreddits how to deal with professors accusing them of generative AI use in their writing during this finals period. Professors are wondering how to deal with obvious generative AI use in their grading. We broke something.

In June I took a chance on a video. I wanted to make a Stoicism video that went beyond Marcus Aurelius, Epictetus, etc. and that didn’t talk about life hacks. Spent some time reading Long on the Stoics, some fragments of the early Stoics, etc. The video tanked, until it didn’t.

As much as I have departed from this way of thinking, I can now see that my dad getting mad at me when I was 14 and bought scratch-off and saying 'We're Baptists, we don't gamble' was very wise. Sports betting is going to continue to ruin a lot of lives as it proliferates.

The kindest thing you can do for young men who are not already gambling is instill in them a strict legalism against gambling. They will thank you decades later. The Methodists were right, you can't become an addict if you never take the first step.

I think part of the issue with Trump is that he doesn’t ‘mean’ things in the way most people do. He talks in ambiguous, confusing, or nonsensical ways. He does so in a tone meant to delight his supporters and freak out the opposition. He does so w/o regard for his own intentions.

@PhilipDBunn I agree , though I think it is even more interesting. I think the great writers often develop an intuition for this — they may not know exactly how it’ll play out when read by others, but they can feel it is working. They’re swimming in the symbolism and we have to interpret.

Many jobs feel pointless, the people in them work hard just to afford what we consider to be a minimum of comfort, and they feel constantly overwhelmed by the futility. We should ask why modern jobs are often so bad, not mock the people who struggle to accept them.
