Everything can be taken too far, of course, but this is powerfully wrong. Bad sentences are never acceptable, not least because they would undermine the structure. Sense and aesthetics cannot be separated, only bad reading makes it seem like they can.

Ofc this is bait, but always worth noting that jazz is one of the greatest human achievements, a rediscovery and enhancement of baroque variation so capacious that it absorbs and accentuates any other form it touches, including classical tonality. Music of the gods.
Controversial opinion: Jazz is simply failed music.
It sounds like a child scribbling all over the page. Formless, meaningless, and unpleasant. Just a bunch of random noise that people trick themselves into liking, while they become numb to true musical quality in the process.

Ok: last year I decided to stop getting in my own way about absolutely everything. So I wrote a dissertation chapter and 2 mag pieces (more to come), and finished a novel. This year, I want to publish the pieces in the pipeline, pitch/write more, and sell that fucking novel.

Not to be earnest on main, but it is deeply unsettling that a concept at the core of at least three major academic disciplines, as well as most of the theory, literature, and art of the last >century, discussed by literally everyone, is too arcane for our mainstream commentariat.
This is an aspect of modernity that I've not seen well-articulated: the total demystification of everything. The pandemic radically accelerated it, but it's been ongoing. Nothing has any mystique any more, any weight. Everything has been flattened into the same paste. "Content."
