IMO the people inside Meta are clearly worried about the positive public perception around Vision Pro.

Can clearly see how much better Apple’s frameworks are compared to running Polyspatial from Unity just based on the hand occlusion.
You can’t do that without tracking hands with sub 7ms latency.
Polyspatial is in beta for a reason. Long road ahead for visionOS

You have to use:
Xcode -> Reality Composer Pro
Then you can record 4k quality from the device without the foveated rendering but it causes slow down on the Vision Pro due to how intensive it is on the m2.

Explain to us again how Quest is an “open” platform?
Can other OEMs build headsets using your forked version of Android? No.
Can other OEMs install their own app stores on QuestOS natively? No.
Quest is more like a Xbox and less like a Windows machine.

Hand occlusion is done with Apple’s frameworks which provide sub 7ms latency.
It’s clear to me that Polyspatial isn’t close to ready, and Unity needs to do more work behind the scenes to increase performance.

Fluidity of movement around the home screen, window arrangement, and eye tracking are the big ones.
Personas look 3x better and the tracking works in pitch black environments now. I can finally lay in bed at night without it constantly getting notified “lost tracking”

Said it before and I’ll say it again. Meta’s competition is not Apple, but Google. Reason being is they’re willing to build a XR OS and license it with use of their Play Store.
Meta has NO ecosystem, and dog shit SDKs. They’re essentially just an incubator for their rivals.
NFL PRO ERA dev Status Pro just scored $20 million in new funding led by Google Ventures. Who wants to guess what this means for a potential release of the next game on the upcoming Samsung/Google XR headset?
The franchise also now has over 1 million users!

It has to do with Apple charging 15%-30% premium on in-app purchases.
All the other companies listed don’t support buying their subscriptions with in-app purchases from Apple devices. Has to be done on the web.
All streaming services supporting visionOS include the IAPs.

Hate to break the news but Apple didn’t invent the smartphone, tablet, or smartwatch either.
They just did them all so well no one cares to remember all the janky shit that came before it.
I predict that 10 years from now, when AR/VR headsets are as common as smartphones are now, people will look back and think Apple were the ones to start the category.
This is sad considering that Meta really layed the foundation with the Quest line, specifically the quest 2.
