Buddy if you wanna learn how to talk to women, I'm available. But I'll write the contract, not your lawyers. Apparently they have no idea how bad it is.
@HotSpotHotSpot
Lmao. People harassing specifically her won't admit that they do it because they're wussing out at targeting someone else. All they need is cheap self-righteousness points. She already does as much as she feels she can do during the campaign, pushing her won't change anything.
Elon Musk is going full force to get Trump elected, because otherwise someone might find out what “Kung Fu practice” with Ghislaine Maxwell is code for.
@BowTiedMara
There's a loophole to protect the owners: apparently if the homeowner has a registered gun in the house (in a locket), police must evict squatters immediately without any legal proceedings. But if you read the history of this whole phenomenon you realize that it's just sad.
@adam_chal
I experienced both.
I worked for employers I despised, putting up to 18 hours a day.
I also worked for a company I loved, with the team I loved, putting 60-70 hours a week for many months.
And I can attest that both kinds of burnout are real. They do feel differently though.
@SwiftOnSecurity
And then, the cheaper compute was becoming, the more we needed it. Now we put it into vapes, toothbrushes, and pregnancy tests, and run Doom on them. Jevons warned us

Effectively he says "Hamas should surrender or we'll keep killing civilians". So it's the US who is using civilians as "human shields", or whatever, in this situation. Every accusation is a confession.

A gentle reminder that Israel, through their companies, is amassing personal data such as government-issued IDs of people all over the world
I am fully negatively polarized around psychedelics. Finding out your grip on reality isn’t strong enough to withstand an amazonian chaos demon should happen before you have a mortgage. I’ve got bills mf I can’t think I’m on a boat ride of the mind.
@ejwilz
@tedgioia
Did you just reduce art that people create because they can’t help themselves and are willing to pay to do so - to a factory where people sell their time to survive? It says nothing about music but everything about you and your worldview, think about it
@dystopiabreaker
No. Arrogance, bloated sense of self-importance, complete lack of self-awareness, recklessness coupled with denial to take responsibility, the unquenchable urge to sell - nerds had none of that. These aren't even close. Nerds were a quiet subculture, techbros are just poison.
@cory
@rabois
I can't believe anyone's still listening to Rabois. He's like the Jordan Peterson of startups. Unhinged toxic moron devoid of anything human. He needs years of therapy.

@elonmusk
Oh man, you have no idea. A woman talked to me once and then before you know it we've spent 15 years together. Gonna ask her and will report back.
@GeorgeMonbiot
It's sad that this information just pops up once every other year, with no consequences. Panama papers, FinCEN Files,
@tomburgis
"Kleptopia", and decades into the past - everyone knows, and everyone forgets, buried by everything else
@RokoMijic
Well, thanks for collecting unhireable (and visibly undateable, too) individuals in your comment section, your effort is appreciated. But you don't have to embarrass yourself, and it's never too late to stop. Go get some life experience. The Internet isn't real life.
@mandalore1228
These voices can be unbearably loud. They can drown out everything else. Don't listen to them. Some of us have that part within us, but they're not us. You're so much bigger than them, and your life is, and can be, so much bigger than whatever they tell you. Don't listen to them.
@RnaudBertrand
Not defending any of the involved parties, Europe has done so much to jeopardize its own energy security in the past 10-15 years it's not even funny
@JackPosobiec
Nice, women hating pendulum of beauty standards swings again. And before some of y'all start yapping - yes, this is a perfect example of women hating on a societal scale, and if you don't see it, you need to educate yourselves.
@liz_love_lace
Um. Folks, I'm not sure you realize, but this person most likely expects every program to have a GUI, too. Like a "regular Windows program" TM. How far do you want to go with this? Bundling Python scripts into .exe, while kind of gross, is doable, but how about writing GUIs then?
@tsoding
They are *meant* to solve actual problems. It's just that picking the right abstractions is *hard*. It's called design/architecture, it's a separate thing from coding, it requires a separate set of skills, and lots of time and thought, and most coders have neither.
@SaulStaniforth
Why does anyone talk to them at this point? They're rogue state, when Russia committed Bucha massacre no one aired an interview with Lavrov or Peskov, what is this? Why does anyone give them platform? Why are they still invited anywhere close to a civil discussion?
As usual with these matters, it began - and continues - with utter blithering idiocy. “Nazism stands for National Socialism: ergo it’s socialism.” Hitler and Goebbels both mentioned socialism in public statements, therefore they were socialists.

This is your only message I'm gonna respond to.
If you envision a long-term relationship as motionless, like there's no need to discover the other person day after day, year after year, you haven't been in one. It's much more learning than you think. I hope you experience it too.
This dude right here does not understand the implications of what he just did. Or maybe he does but he doesn't care. He just wanted to be a cool kid.
And our industry is full to of them, to the brim.
This needs to stop.

This exact term was very much a thing: in the USSR. It's still popular in some post-Soviet countries. Mostly as a meme, but, as you can imagine, sometimes not.
Which makes me wonder - what happened here: did someone in the US overheard it - or reinvented it.
@liz_love_lace
The language of this post gives off an angry spoiled teenage boy vibes. The project in question is basically a stalking tool. Do we really want to pay attention to any of this as an industry? As experts?
For those interested, there's Hiding in Plain Sight by

@tomburgis
, lots of info and books about it. I'm worried that we're living in the consequences of something that nobody even tries to publicly assess, it has completely faded now.
@LeaMaric
From what I've heard, Italians consider it natural to take care of their children way into those children's 30s. Meaning things like covering their expenses etc. Proper parental care. As much as it's possible for them, that is. It's cultural, and it's a good thing
@TheThotHooThot
@IwriteOK
That's why I said "roughly"; iirc they initially come from monks and were meant for monks, not as "deadly sins" but as lines of thought that, if left unmoderated, could lead to sinful behavior
@Esqueer_
Whenever news like this breaks, the late George Carlin comes to mind.
"Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that."
Makes one wonder how much some (most?) people in power in fact deviate from that average.
@EliotHiggins
There's that old essay by Harry Frankfurt called "On Bullshit" that summarizes this phenomenon and its consequences pretty well. We already had that with marketing and advertising, with propaganda, etc. AI, as usual, is simply accelerating it.
@josephfcox
This is great. Imagine just how much data they've accumulated throughout these years. It's insane, it's a gold mine. Wouldn't be as valuable had he give in years ago.
@mandalore1228
Treat it like cannibalism. I think it's about time. It's not just something to stop; it's something to drive away, ostracize, leave in the past as a phenomenon. The fact that it still exists is a sign of our under-development
@fchollet
Even though I agree, I don't like this depiction. It renders a hopeless picture, as if there's nothing that can be done about it. There are sources of sentiments like that. Some societies are developed enough to combat these sentiments, and while others aren't yet, it's doable.
@GaryMarcus
Not really. He’s flooding the zone with shit, from all hoses, reaching out to as many people as possible. It’s deliberate, and it’s gonna get worse. We shouldn’t simply dismiss him, we need to fact check his bs, in real time, publicly.
@DanielMillerEsq
Thank you. I went through the exact same 6 years ago, except for a different country, so can only agree and fully share your sentiment. I hope you're already aware of the book "They Thought They Were Free" by Milton Mayer
@MrJackLowe
I hate solar fields so much, this is so dumb from so many angles. What a waste. It could be done differently, yes it would be more expensive and the output would be lower, but it would be so much more sustainable and manageable than this mess.
@SwiftOnSecurity
Does Steam ask for additional confirmation if a login attempt was made from a new location? I just don't know. Seems like a simple thing that could prevent many such cases, they gather that info anyway

@AOC
Because she trusted the people who told her that it's true, you dumbass. Simple as that. You'd do the same in her situation. And now the left is going out of their way to elect the guy who just lies all the goddamn time just to spite her. Braindead behavior.
@DaniBeckman
It's interesting that hypertension is listed as one of the possible reasons, whereas hypotension is not - even though it directly affects brain blood circulation. Maybe I'm missing something though
I think we've gathered enough instances of techies openly being complete douches, on this platform or elsewhere - to compile a list for HRs to see and make informed decisions. I'd even happily end up there myself, just for it to exist.
@SwiftOnSecurity
Tech has become the modern snake oil salesmen's shelter. Internet of things, blockchain, now this. Billions are wasted/redistributed, nobody gets punished

Probably a significant portion of it is legacy that's not deployed anywhere anymore. Also lots of forks that were abandoned, lots of one-off experiments that got nowhere, etc. I'd bet only like 10-20% is used in their production environment at any given time, if that.
@dhh
It's one thing to feel overwhelmed every now and again. It's another thing to be overwhelmed for *months* on end without resolve for someone else's benefit.
