My colleague @cass_zimmer has a new piece out analyzing the use of Guantanamo Bay as a detainment center for migrants:
Yesterday, the Trump administration sent the first 10 deportees to Guantanamo Bay, as part of a broader plan to detain 30,000 individuals there. This flight cost $142,500 alone, one indicator that this move will cost US taxpayers billions. Read more ⬇️

A US mil C-17 carrying dozens of migrants who entered the country illegally left earlier today for Amritsar, India, defense officials said. It's first such flight outside this hemisphere. It will stop in Guam before it's scheduled Feb. 5 arrival, local time, officials said.
