I mean, it's not either or--I would definitely do both. Most immigration preferences, while distinct, are highly correlated, so I don't see how adding one general estimate clearly tapping into some kind of general attitude in addition to all separate estimates can be bad. Besides, some people may also worry about the measurement error of single-item questions prevalent in survey research:
