🚨There are plenty of signs that emergency shelters in MA haven't been safe for migrants and residents alike. If you know anything, please contact me at 👉carine.hajjar@globe.com

Maybe they were being extra careful? Or maybe they thought that domestic violence without imagery of biting, strangulation, and hitting would land a little softer with voters who seem increasingly skeptical about how the governor has handled our billion-dollar shelter system.

The way the Healey administration handled a report of domestic violence in a shelter suggests redactions were used to downplay violence and obscure alarming details that might have brought more scrutiny, writes @carinemhajjar.

That Trump is trying to clean up Biden's mess at the border isn't a surprise — the surprise is how he's going about it. My latest on @Varneyco

@GlobeOpinion No-brainer: ending DEI in federal government. Progressives tried to conflate equality with "equity." But we already have protections for equality in government - the Civil Rights Act.

Fighting an unpopular battle on birthright citizenship detracts from the scrutiny on states like Massachusetts, where Governor Maura Healey has overseen migrant shelters where horrific crimes, including rapes, have occurred.

I won’t count on cashing in on my Social Security — which is expected to be insolvent by 2035. But it might help if we don’t eliminate a fraction of the future taxpayers supporting the system. In defense of birthright citizenship:

Some mothers surely come to the United States to have babies, but that’s far from the top reason pulling migrants to the border. The Biden administration created a crisis by releasing hundreds of thousands of people into the interior, whether they qualified for asylum or not.

This is one of the most unfortunate legacies Biden is leaving behind -- his admin knew they were abusing parole, and they knew it had an end date, and now millions are predictably in the lurch

NEW: President Trump’s DHS has given the green light to ICE to review & potentially terminate parole status for the nearly 1.5 million migrants allowed into the U.S. via Biden’s controversial parole programs (CBP One phone app & CHNV migrant flights), opening the door for their deportations. Trump has terminated both of those programs. Biden’s border policies and programs are evaporating in the first week of this new Trump administration. Story by colleague @AdamShawNY

President Trump is trying to deter unlawful immigration by seeking an end to birthright citizenship. But he has already proposed more effective tools to limit immigration — tools that expend less legal and political capital. Thanks @AmericaNewsroom for having me on!

Notable that the DEI EO "does not prohibit" academics at federally funded universities from "advocating for, endorsing, or promoting the unlawful employment or contracting practices prohibited by this order." That's where DEI ideas have always belonged — as academic theories to be tested and debated, not as governing principles of universities that should be teaching without infusing ideology into everything.
