I’m sharing the very sad news that Beccy passed away peacefully this morning. She spent her last few days at @SJHospice who provided the most dignified & compassionate care to Beccy & her whole family. Donations to the hospice can be made in Beccy’s memory. ❤️

The strangest thing about Warwickshire's proposals is how much upheaval they are prepared to inflict for such little benefit. The Corporate Board's preferred option improves attendance times by 17 seconds for first engine and 12 seconds for engine two. Shipston in happier times

Drill nights are valuable training time, not to allow a union to organise itself. All at the taxpayers expense and in plain sight of @fire_scot management. Not a great look when cuts to frontline posts are being discussed due to a lack of funding. @SFRSchair

Grossly misleading headline. Tests should reflect the challenges firefighters face now, not 40 years ago. We desperately need more women firefighters to complement those who are already in the service and doing a fantastic job.

Mid-Wales retained firefighter system is not sustainable, warns fire chief. 'Mr Thomas said no retained firefighters were "getting wealthy", and that there were proposals to make the role more attractive in that regard.' We look forward to seeing those.

Earlier this week I visited the team @HornbyFire - a beautiful rural village in our amazing county. They do a fantastic job keeping their appliance available, all doing so many hours of on-call cover, keeping people safe. Heroes, every one of them 👏👏

'Recruitment in Kerry for retained fire-fighters' Salary starts at €11,750 rising to over €15,000 after 8 years service. They also receive bonuses for drill attendances and time spent responding to incidents, with double pay for the latter at weekends.

Tobermory Fire Station last week, with a full crew of female firefighters representing and protecting their community.  Vanessa, Kelly, Alison, Katherine and Lee. Female firefighters now make up a third of Tobermory's personnel and bring great diversity and skillset to the unit.

Sadly On-Call do not get the recognition nationally or even locally they deserve. Often too many unnecessary hurdles are placed in applicants paths, and many FRAs lack flexibility, operating on principles appropriate to the 1950's not 2021. Change is in the air but it's too slow.

Nationwide we need to be realistic & ask why are we struggling to recruit & retain On Call Firefighters 🚒? Why are there waiting lists for Police special constables & RNLI crew!? (Both voluntary unpaid) are we asking too much or not providing the experience we are selling??

After all the nonsense spoken yesterday it's time for a reality check. The reason why the workforce lacks female firefighters is because of the culture in most services not because of a children's programme. Too many join and leave due to being treated poorly.

Bidford, Shipston, Henley, Kenilworth, Fenny Compton, Gaydon and Polesworth have on-call stations at the heart of their communities. Warwickshire FRS propose turning these into 'surge teams' needed around four times every five years. @nadhimzahawi @craig4nwarks

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue have one Chief Fire Officer, two Assistant Chief Fire Officers, three Area Managers and six Group Managers, who will be eventually be responsible for 12 fire engines and 10 stations. That's one engine each. Good work if you can get it!

In Warks FRS recent podcast ACFO Waldron said the new part-time posts (on station 6 pm to 10 pm two nights a week on a watch system) might suit those with caring responsibilities. We think that is highly unlikely, and indicates the lack of thought going into this process.
