@materialist_jew
True. In this case, there's a noticeable collapse of the neoliberal center(-right) that cleared the agonistic lines of demarcation. That helped a lot.
@socmediafailure
@BlakPantherBabe
That is absolute nonsense. It's solidarity. Only in a neoliberal culture where identities are looked at as capital assets one would fail to see the distinction between solidarity and appropriation.
@yakabikaj
The case with Persian is additionally complicated. Many of us can't travel back home to bring the new gen to see Iran. There are fewer resources available compared to some other languages. Even freaking Duolingo doesn't have it.
@vildechayeh
I can't emphasize enough how admirable you and others like yourself are. I want to think I have been critical of my own communities when it mattered, but you set a high bar/example. Thank you
@DanielBral
Who are said "folks"? It seems to me that the distortions are primarily driven by journalists and people with large platforms. It's not a simple question of folks being honest
This document linked by

is absolutely jaw dropping. It's a theoretical contortion : "It Takes Intersectionality to Fight Intersectionality".
19/ As Reut's paper proves (below), Zionists recognize the threat of an alliance between all victims of white supremacy, including Palestinians, Black and Brown people, women, Indigenous groups, immigrants and others.

I have often done that, even before AI, when worried about plagiarism. But it's not a surefire thing, especially for non native speakers.

Like I said I have done this but it's definitely not as logical as it seems. I have had students who did the work (know it for sure) but couldn't talk about it. Many are proficient in writing and reading but speaking is not that straightforward
Political claims based on a communal identity always have this problem of having to to reject others in the community as not being the real deal.
@Mivasair
is constantly targeted like that and I admire him and any who resist their own community's essentialism.
Stop it with “our Jewish community”!
You’re not one of us. We aren’t yours.
Jews are not in community. We oppose each other.

I reflect on abolition & what it means for political science and international relations at a time of permacrisis.

It's very difficult for me to imagine an adult (let alone a fellow privileged academic) sincerely ask for support like this. What I do know is that if it was made all better with a few emojis it was not a real problem.
I won't lie, today was difficult.
But your incredible support helped lift me back up.
This is what makes us unique.
We are more than a religion or an ethnicity.
We are a people.
We are a tribe.
Thank you for for being there for me. I will never stop being there for you.

Yes I am. Have been teaching philosophy for over twenty years and at this point when it comes to non native speaker I no longer have that certainty. I used to. Partly because I wasn't a native speaker and projected my ability to do that onto others. It's not a given.

It's not a "complete" inability but the ability to pass the threshold in question here. Of course any student could say something overall about I wrote X. That won't help with checking if it's their original work in conversation. It's not a recital but a conversation
@KenRoth
and if he did die during the fight, why deny it this whole time? And where's his body? You don't cut up someone after they supposedly punched you. This is disgraceful

Just amazing, thank you. The "politics of recognition" without a shift in the political economy is a painful trap and often paints the oppressed as unreasonable and ungrateful.

Very, very few series and movies available as well. Sometimes one finds something on YouTube or elsewhere but no real caption options etc. It's been a challenge
One of the candidates in the upcoming presidential election in Iran is Masoud Pezeshkian. Google translate on X keeps translating his last name: "doctors". Not a good translation as a noun, let alone misleading for a proper name.
"Marx's Ethical Vision" comes out in hardcover from

on August 9, one month from today. I am still pinching myself that this work will soon be out in the world. I'm deeply proud of it and hope it will be of great value to those who read it. 💖

There's also a perverse version in US politics where everyone is assigned middle-class status, erasing working-class entirely as an identity
I am very excited and pleased to share that my new book **Resisting State Surveillance in the Digital Age** will be out soon, as part of the

Years ago, my grandmother asked me how things were going. Told her about finishing up the PhD etc. She said that's great but she would like "results". Almost started saying it's a WIP. Took me a second to remember that the word for great grand child in Persian is "result".
I wish I could say no Iranian ever supports Hamas because of the Iranian government. Nevertheless, this kind of facile equation of Hamas and Palestinians is thoughtless at best.
Iranians have zero obligation to support the “cause” of Hamas supporters. These vile, terrorist-loving creatures have nothing in common with Iranians.
The regime cruelly murdered 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, and they were the first to mock us and side with our oppressors. They have

Quite a relief (somewhat surprising, just a little?), but it's still kicking the can down the road. It seems a significant chuck of the French voters have to see RN in power to see the futility of their promises and vision

As much as possible, be on record with human resources for your needs (they're bound by privacy), especially if you need accommodation. Have mentors/colleagues you trust to confide in so that you don't see the situation solely from your own view
Don’t let the obscenity of “legally killed child” obscure the old racist assertion that anyone is hiding behind kids. We have seen kids, alone on the street, shot in the head by snipers. They are bombing families in tents. This is evil on evil on evil. The Atlantic is

1) Puts to bed the notion of there being a peasantry/peasant class in UK/Fr/It today
2) Conceptualises class, like EP Thompson, as a process/action not a thing/category
3) His methodological combination of Marxist sociology, history and geography

The whole review process is these days deeply problematic but I think editors have abdicated too much of their role. They can - and should - be able to let rejections through while editing out or asking reviewers to be more professional and considerate.

It is a very common chant, of course. For every incumbent. Here, the context of the comparison matters because it is used to drown out other voices.
@Jairo_I_Funez
Agree. One of the excuses I see among academics is that Palestinians are not a race. That assumes that racism was actually about "race" itself.
Appreciated this essay a lot
"Decades of research, contemporary migration patterns, and even the Home Office’s own leaked briefing make clear that deterrence doesn’t work."
Wrote a short piece for
@openDemocracy
on detention, migration and the UK election, fuelled by my disappointment and rage at the discussion around migration during the 'leaders debate' last week...
This rotten world, infused with filthy racism, has left no place untouched by its dirt. I only want to live long enough to witness how this world will meet its end!
Another redirection of attention is this kind of fashionable attack against academia. As an Iranian university professor, I don't take this kind of cheap slander lightly, but the misdirection is more offensive.
The
#Cult_of_Madness
that dominates the academia in the US today, is the same cult of madness that took over Iran in 1979, the Marxists-Islamist coalition.
Khomeini later violently threw the Marxist wing under the bus, but that has not prevented the global left from suppporting

While I agree with much of this thread, Iran is/will likely be a "Muslim" country unlike others due to the experience of tyrannical theocracy. It's not just a normal generational shift.
