was a very kind human being and a great mind. My condolences to his family, friends, and students. He will be missed. May he rest in peace.
Really heartbroken over this news. One of the sharpest, kindest, and most encouraging faculty members I have come across. Even though I was outside his field when I was a graduate student, he always had a generous word of support. Condolences to family, friends, and colleagues.

Reputations require stability so that audiences can use past data to guide today's expectations

Demonstrations of resolve improve reputations, but these improved reputations reduce the need for future demonstrations, creating cycles.
