@SaulStaniforth The government can issue currency as it does with quantitive easing, it can borrow through issuing bonds and it can tax the super rich. It has money whenever it wants. It chooses to let children go hungry because that appeases it's donors.

@Footymac I saw him speak many times (and once organised for him to come and speak to us at Islington Sixth form centre) and read much of his work when I was teenager (except the one about poetry). He was a great writer, a great journalist, and a great socialist.

In the 1990s I was in the Anti Nazi League, we protested the BNP and Jean Marie Le Penn and helped push back the tide of the far right by showing them they weren't welcome in the communities they claimed to speak for. Shouldn't we be organising counter demonstrations again?

Blair tried to establish a new politcal concensus where public services were well funded but profit was great. Starmer's Labour's default political position is just naked Thatcherism where profit comes before public services. But the mission that drives them is owning the left.
