One of the things I remember most about living in Downing Street was how amazingly friendly, generous and kind the team who keep the place going are - the cleaners, custodians, front of house and the police. Working all hours, not very well-paid but always there for us.

One family missed the original flight because of the delay and waited eight hours for the next one, for which their hosts paid on a credit card. They arrived at Stanstead suffering from dehydration and “shattered” by the experience, their host said.
