2017: can't believe the angels wasted Mike Trout's prime
2018: wow trout AND ohtani?!
2023: can't believe the angels wasted Mike Trout AND Shohei Ohtani's primes
honestly, suspending his chairmanship is insufficient. he has to recuse himself from all Senate proceedings. He endangered lives for his own profit. He has no right to be in that chamber.
As a member of the House Intelligence Committee, I know that our committee receives sensitive information, including assessments and projections, before others in Congress and the general public (if ever).
Senator Burr should suspend his chairmanship pending investigation.
@Peggynoonannyc
you know the way this works well enough to know that a lot of the 76% are not opponents. viewership skews HEAVILY to those who support and want to see the president.
Nick Sandlin has faced 12 hitters in his MLB career. Over those hitters, he has recorded 13 outs. He has 4 K, 0 BB, 0 hits allowed. On the 8 balls in play, he has 5 GO, an IFFB, and just 1 LD and 1 other FB. he has only allowed two balls over 90 MPH EV, and only one over 95.
If the Guardians aren't gonna add, they should go BIG on the youth. Start Kwan and Gonzalez. Give 2B to Arias. Put Jones at 1B. You believe that strongly in the kids? Let'em play and see what happens.
Last year, Jose Ramirez had the 9th lowest SwStrk% in MLB among qualified hitters. Myles Straw had the 2nd lowest.
The guy hitting between them hasn't swung through a pitch yet.
The lineup lacks depth but that's just a brutal way for any pitcher to start a game.
The "why get Murphy when Naylor is coming" talk track is crazy to me. 1) Murphy is better. If Naylor turns into Murphy that's an INCREDIBLE outcome. 2) there's plenty of room for both. Can each catch 81, play some 1B/DH. Naylor maybe some OF. Having both is a feature, not a bug.
If you're not gonna hit Ramirez second, I'd already think about Straw-Kwan. The combination of OBP skills and bat skills will frustrate pitchers just in time to face Ramirez
Tough call. Do you want the guy who's a better hitter, better fielder, better baserunner, has the more impressive track record and is younger? Or do you want the guy who has more letters in his name? Tough call
Also, as a Guardians fan, having a star like this literally refuse to leave, be absolutely deadset on staying with this team and with the city? That means so much. Build around him, bring up the kids, and get this man a ring.
Heartbroken to say goodbye to this guy tonight. Been with us almost as long as my wife and I have known each other. My kids don't know a world without him. Hayes got almost 14 years and was happy to the end. Hikes won't be the same without you, buddy.
@FranmilsEyebrow
Let me say this, this guy is an on base machine, above average fielder and he hits home runs. What if you add him to a lineup of healthy Guardians:
@GageEHC
I don't think he's anti Cleveland or anything but he's pretty regularly and intentionally made Cleveland the "other" team in this series, I think
His Statcast xHR was 31. His Statcast "if all his games were at Yankee Stadium xHR" was 27.
There's a lot of "LEFTY AT YANKEE STADIUM?!?" reaction happening here without taking a look at who the hitter is and how the park will impact him specifically.
Assuming these tweets are both accurate, expanding to 14 teams would be a net loss for owners on TV revenue vs. player salary. Obviously more to it (gate, for example) but strongly suggests 14-team playoff demand is NOT about revenue, it's about "competing" without spending.
Last year, this thread ran over 500 tweets, as I offered quick thoughts on every selection in an
@OttoneuBaseball
mock auction. Didn't get this going in November, but we'll be starting today, and I'll try to match that thread once again.
the second amendment is, in theory, supposed to allow the citizenry to protect itself if it's rights (for example, to protest) are threatened by the government. So I assume we will see second amendment supporters out in droves defending the rights of protestors, right? right??
@RuiterWrongFAN
Having worked in sports marketing, 7 months is plenty. Two years is way way too long and unnecessary. A two year process is probably a broken process
@GageEHC
I tend to agree people overstate this but there have been some weird things: 1) using the old name repeatedly and intentionally. 2) noting that the Yankees would want Houston to lose (CLE might like that too!) 3) making the '48 series about the Boone family. Among a few others
Some much deserved recognition for
@nivshah
, the man behind
@Ottoneu
. Niv has built the best fantasy game out there and this piece does a nice job capturing the story and what makes Ottoneu so great.
It's close. Voit has one more RBI, which is big. Santana only leads him in: avg obp slg wOBA wRC+ HR R SB BB% K% WAR ISO H 2B DRS UZR.
So it's really just a question of what you value.
I've been hesitant to write up a SP since joining
@PitcherList
, mostly because there are so many great pitching analysts there (Nick, of course, but also
@AlexFast8

,

, and many others) and I wasn't sure I had much to add. But... (1/4)
Tarik Skubal has put together the best month of his young career, and there are some promising signs underneath it.
@chadyoung
looks at how improvements to his secondary pitches are helping Skubal find his way.
my issue with MiLB "man on second" rule is not break from tradition - it's that it is going to make extra inning games suck. Every half inning will start with a bunt. most will follow with IBB. bottom half of innings will all start bunt, IBB, IBB. thrilling
Growing up in the 80's I had one dream: hit 1K Twitter followers by my 39th birthday. I know that's oddly specific but that's what I wanted.
Well I turn 39 today and I need 13 more followers. Who can help put me over the top?
Matching set for me and my son. He'll tell your he's a Mariners fan since he's growing up in Seattle, but the Guards are a close second and I'm not giving up yet lol
Getting two straight days off while picking up a game on the Twins and half a game on the Sox, plus dodging Cease and moving a Sox game to a day when they have to travel in and out and the Guards don't? That's pretty strong for not playing an inning
MLB needs to get this "unwritten rules" shit under control. If a pitcher intentionally throws at a batter, regardless of why, suspend him for 30 games. Make it costly. Urena shouldn't start again this year.
@DamonLinker
I think you're missing the point: what I (and I think others) want is to see how Trump defends his positions when pushed. Does he even understand the positions he holds? My assumption is no and I'd like to see that pushed.
Dynasty startup slow draft is underway with some folks form the
@PitcherList
community. Did KDS for draft order and I prioritized and received the 5th pick. Got Betts (Tatis, Acuña, Soto, Trout) went first.
If anyone is considering
@Ottoneu
but overwhelmed by taking over with few days to make trades/cuts, I'll make an offer: take a team that needs a manager, and I'll review roster/league with you. Claim a team, introduce yourself to league message board, and DM me a link to roster.
For those looking to get into
@Ottoneu
(or more Ottoneu!) today is a good day to do it. The link below has teams in search of managers and you can claim these teams today and still have a few days to make trades/cuts before the deadline.
just my immediate reaction: the Guardians not making upgrades with a packed farm system and a very good shot at the division is a failure of the front office and no amount of "we weren't willing to mortgage the future/shorten the window/etc." talk should excuse it.
Thanks to Shugs Soda Fountain for bringing a little joy into our socially distant home. Take-home, DIY sundae kit was a hit. Sounds like they'll be available daily at new West Seattle location, if anyone wants to support local biz (and get great dessert)

Hi Jon- just letting you know, as a Jewish person, that yes using the word "Jewing" is highly offensive and antisemitic. The fact that you don't realize that is kinda shocking, to be honest.
Each off-season, I organize an
@OttoneuBaseball
mock auction (slow auction) and then put out a single tweet on every. single. player. taken in the auction, plus some left undrafted. This year, I was too busy to coordinate but...

Ok, had a couple requests to stream this thing, so I am going to give it a shot. It'll be on my twitch channel () starting at 9 pm ET tonight. I have never done this before so I make no promises, but I'll do my best to make it entertaining.
I've seen so much of this again recently so for whoever needs to hear it: baseball ticket prices are not high because of player salaries - they are high because that is the price at which the owner makes the most money. That is why every price is what it is.
Yes Cleveland tanked Aguilar's value so that after 2016 they let him go and save money by (checks notes) signing Edwin Encarnacion to replace him for $60MM
The more that I think about the proposed changes to the playoff format, the more they makes sense. It's an anti-tanking device -- giving more reasons for teams to spend $ and push for a playoff berth, more Oct. hope for players, fans. It could reduce the standings polarization.
Player "on a path" - 33 years old, 46.4 RWAR, 48.7 fWAR, 43.1 JAWS
Jose - 30 years old, 41.6 rWAR, 42.5 fWAR, 39.6 JAWS
So if Jose just plays like crap for next three years he can catch up to being "on a path?"
Or does he need to be involved in a massive cheating scandal too?
Justin Turner's deal with the Boston Red Sox is for two years and just shy of $22 million, and it includes an opt-out after the first season, sources tell ESPN.
"but the Angels winning % is almost identical with or without him in the line up."
can you back that up? I am 99% sure you made it up. far as I can tell, they're .505 with him; .450 without since '12. That's about 82 wins/yr vs. 73, or ~9 wins/162 G better. Trout fWAR/162G: 9.6
I don't believe in WAR as a stat. Mike Trout is everybody's king of WAR, but the
@Angels
winning % is almost identical with or without him in the line up. Shouldn't his "wins above replacement" be more reflective of what actually happens in real baseball games?
Today is the best day.
It's Orientation Day at Pitcher List as we add over 60 new staffers to the team, making our team 170+ strong.
Unreal.
I can't wait to work with all of these smart, talented, and genuinely good people!
Atlanta might be the best team in baseball and a huge chunk of the gap from them to Cleveland is that they were willing to trade top prospects to Oakland and Cleveland wasn't. Put Olson and Murphy on Cleveland and it makes a MASSIVE difference.
Indians haven't finished last in division since 1991 and that seems crazy to me. It's a tribute to org that they've never truly bottomed out over nearly three decades. Also a tribute to their division I guess. But still. Can't be many teams that have avoided the cellar that long.
The Yankees hit only 5 balls with an xBA over .300 last night. They didn't "slam" Cleveland pitching (the obvious GS aside), they BABIP'ed their way to a win despite a poor offensive showing.
28.3 fWAR through age 25 season for Grady.
55.1 for Trout lol.
And that's not a knock on Sizemore. He may have well been on his way to a HoF career. But Trout vs Grady is roughly same as Grady vs a random replacement level guy you don't remember. Trout is just that good.
Things you don't want to hear recording a podcast
Me: I think X is a SP bust, here's why...
@enosarris
: I vehemently disagree with you
Should be up early next week so you can find out which SP!
Thanks for joining, Eno, was a great convo with you,

and
@JustinVibber
I have seen a lot of Cleveland fans hoping to avoid Seattle and a lot hoping to avoid Toronto, but if TB can go McClanahan-Glasnow-Rasmussen with Springs and Kluber available out of the pen or to open or whatever? I just think all three are good teams that will be tough matchups.
Jose Ramirez has a .349 wOBA, has made multiple great game-changing plays on the bases, and is on pace for another ~6.5 fWAR season and yet I keep thinking, "man, this team is gonna look so much better when Ramirez starts hitting."

How to steal an election: “Seeding an area heavy with potential Democratic votes with as many absentee ballots as possible, targeting and convincing potential voters to complete them in a legally valid way, and then harvesting and counting the results.”
You know what would help strengthen the bonds between police and citizens? Not referring to police as warriors as if they're at war with citizens. That choice of words is so wrong and so telling. If

Pres. Trump turned to former Yankee Alex Rodriguez for advice this week. A source close to Rodriguez described the call as “pleasant” adding that Trump was seeking thoughts from ARod about the coronavirus response.
They hit him with three pitches this series and it was pretty clear the last one bothered him. Then he took the pitcher who just hit him deep for a walk off? Seems like a slow trot to first is warranted.
That if you'd just stop wallowing in your Browns-inspired self-loathing for like three hours you could go watch multiple MVP candidates on an elite baseball team in a gorgeous stadium...
I love Manzardo. I get why the team wanted to trade Civale. I love this deal long-term (and by long-term, I could mean as soon as September and certainly by Opening Day next year). But, right now? I am a little bummed. Just some mixed emotions about this one.

I have lots of issues with James Karinchak, but creating a program to raise money for a foundation that supposedly exists to "strengthen the bonds between the Cleveland Division of Police and the citizens" and calling it Whiffs for Warriors is deeply, deeply disturbing.
