I used to live near & deliver down a little lane leading to a small cemetery that included some war graves. One day I decided to pay my respects and went inside. There I found a young pilot's gravestone marking the day he died as 24th July, my birthday.

On researching his story I learnt that P/O Aston Maurice Cooper-Key
was attempting to land his stricken Hurricane on parkland, when he spotted boys playing football. Aborting this, his aircraft then crashed into a nearby railway embankment & he was killed.
Always remembered. 🙏

Just finished reading this excellent book on a lesser known part of the RAF's war.
These brave crews flew through heavy flak to attack enemy shipping. Carried out single recce sea patrols where many missing crew's fate, still remains unknown.
Never forgotten. 🙏

A blue plaque has been unveiled at the RSPCA in Hull honouring Sydney Colman.
During the blitz he walked around Hull rescuing thousands of animals left behind in bombed out homes. He was buried in rubble himself on three occasions!

Over in 3 hours, other books barely mention the invasion of Denmark. So high praise is well deserved here for a fascinating chapter on Denmark's military & political situation through the 1930's.

Much like his D-Day book, this is another excellent & detailed read that covers far more than the title suggests. My only grumble is the usual lack of maps.
