lots of new followers today, so in case we’ve just met—hi i’m babs, photographer, LA local, and i have lupus. this disease has changed my life in so many ways, from taking my abilities to forcing me to action when i couldn’t refill my HCQ rx in march 2020.
“People don’t have a clear understanding of how you can still contract the virus. In their defense, no one has told them plainly that just walking into a room where someone with COVID was 40 minutes ago could get you infected.”
Hey hi as you see headlines about
#hydroxychloroquine
on your socials yet again, I need you to be clear on who is being harmed by poor reporting and misinformation: it is
#autoimmune
people. We need visibility, we need protections.
@sarahcpr
It’s a fantastic video. I just hope that people are aware that this rhetoric has immediate consequences for people who rely on
#Hydroxycloroquine
, like me for my lupus. We have been experiencing shortages since March. It’s truly been a nightmare.
@BeingCharisBlog
Yea he’s on team autoimmune and despite the critical acclaim, he’s alone in his safety. Truly how far does valuing someone’s artistry go when they’re asked to risk their health 😒

I appreciate the kinship that comes with being the only young(ish) one in the room with a mask on due to an illness others can’t see. The way the next paragraph undermines his extremely legitimate anxiety is not great though !!!!!! 🫠
seems like folks should call 1-800-766-1000 to express their disgust at in n out’s unwillingness to allow employees the autonomy to protect themselves even when their employer won’t.
Thinking about all the people who could easily have 4+ comorbidities and don’t even know because our medical system is inaccessible from prevention to, now, pestilence, and death.
#MyDisabledLifeIsWorthy
@GavinNewsom
From the bottom of my immunocompromised heart, I am truly disgusted my taxes pay for you and your decisions. Prioritize disabled people. I will never forget the callousness your choice to re-open shows people like me. You’re killing us.
@MalakaGharib
Just to make sure I’m clear here: you don’t find it reasonable for your husband to prevent himself from becoming more disabled? Which would. of course, ultimately remove even more “normal” from your life should it occur?
Covid is a workers rights issue, & Fran Drescher doesn’t believe in protecting you from it. As you watch folks praise her speech don’t forget that she literally quoted right wing extremists in pursuit of removing mitigation from sets.
#MaskUp
out there ✊🏻
I wish the best to everyone who is striking right now. You deserve better working conditions, salaries, etc
But it makes me sad that the protests are full of unmasked people.
Covid is a workers' issue. Yes, Covid again. Because it affects everything in our lives.
every time i share the joy from mitigated events (when they go well, not all do to be sure), nigh all i hear is longing.
humans need connection, relationships— also the intersections where viruses thrive.

“entering the airspace of an individual in order to capture an image or recording of that individual engaging in a private, personal or familial activity without permission” is prohibited. “a response to the use of UAS by the press in covering celebrities & other public figures.”
@mattxiv
@TaylorLorenz
No literally like….. nearly everything that she said about me— an autoimmune person going to a large concert where many people got covid— is just like…… true???
@KiBlizzz
and she’s giving them some incredible free consulting to boot. the ideas she laid out in her video were achievable should Disney unclench their hands around their gold coins for two seconds.
@replouiegohmert
Mr. Gohmert, will you advocate for patients like me who rely on hydroxychloroquine daily to manage our debilitating autoimmune diseases? We have been suffering shortages for months. We need this drug too.
Hey hi as you see headlines about

people. We need visibility, we need protections.
DOCTORS/NURSES/HCWs: If you hear coworkers celebrating the end of masking, PLEASE ask why they are willing, if not excited, to contribute to a more dangerous space for patients—esp if we are in earshot. Do no harm includes the psychological toll of self advocacy just to get care.
@D_Vandergriff
@MalakaGharib
Darren, you are not the problem. Government austerity & widespread denial may lead you to feel this way, but there is NOTHING wrong with not wanting to become more disabled, with taking steps to prevent it. Frankly I’m so sorry you’ve been made to feel this way, & so publicly.

joining the choir of women who have now had their methotrexate (which i have to take to you know…not die) refills denied bc it is considered an abortifacient & am begging someone, anyone, to explain to me — like i’m a tiny lil fetus — how this fits into the pro-life narrative
@morganstephensa
Morgan, please let us know if you see UV installed, obvious filtration, any mitigation in leu of this major rule change. There is skepticism in the anti-covid community that he’s dropping *all* mitigations just because he’s publicly dropping testing & masking—we need journalism.
folks will be like “i don’t know anyone with longcovid” but we have a mutual friend who *i know* has longcovid—besties if this is you i recommend reframing and considering why people *aren’t telling you* about the struggles they statistically likely have.
people LOVE to tell me that don't think long covid is common bc they "don't know anyone impacted"
yesterday i reshared a post on my instagram stories about LC & woke up to messages from 6 people asking for more info bc someone they love is dealing with it...
alls i’m trying to say is you don’t have to be a celebrity’s child to prove that protecting your community can be cool and stylish !!! in fact the more people *from all walks of life* who do this, the better !!!!!
@ProjectLincoln
Hey! Here’s a recommendation for a future campaign ad: talk abt how the president used hydroxychloroquine as a political pawn & in the process sowed distrust in science & left millions of autoimmune people struggling for access to our essential daily medication. Hope that helps!
@slouisepetersen
fun fact: histamine levels in food rise the older it is, so folks sensitive to histamine may have unpleasant experiences consuming it and just not know why, especially if the first serving was fine ya know?
@BrandyZadrozny
As a person with lupus who relies on hydroxychloroquine daily, this is truly fantastic news. They were continuing their disinfo stream about my essential medication even through this week, and people like me have suffered for it. Beyond time for this.
when you don’t mask in public, don’t require masks at yr event, only mask up at a protest—you may not see it as making a choice, but you are. you’re choosing, in passivity, to allow an airborne vascular virus to disable&kill while othering those who know they can’t take the risk.
re-engage! I'm begging. start masking again. look at how easy it is to discuss banning them because it's seen as fringe and political. covid will keep on disabling and killing, and I hope with everything that you get out unscathed, but you can take action. it's not too late.

@SenWhitehouse
@sarahkendzior
You said it, Senator Whitehouse. If eyes are on Leonard Leo, they MUST be on the Council for National Policy as well. Here is Mr. Leo’s listing in the last leaked membership list, from Sept 2020. This group has coordinated in secret to the detriment of our democracy for too long.
I’m sure most could name a few individuals or organizations behind the massive dark money machine
@SenWhitehouse
is referring to, but if you don’t know the Council for National Policy, you’re missing a big part of how this
#ShadowNetwork
keeps its power 👇🏻
@AOC
Not just for him, but for members like Hawley as well. They share the same beliefs that landed us here and espoused them on the floors of Congress. They must be held accountable.
What these always miss is that the mask ALLOWS me to be in large groups of people, indeed the same function it provides me, say, at my job (the only language Think Tanks™️ speak); as an event photographer with lupus masks allow me to continue working safely.
This model mask ban law states that no person wearing a mask for health reasons should be congregating in large groups of people.
That’s ableist. People have a right to participate in social activities and protest while protecting their health.
1/ Oh this is rich, & explains what Dr. Simone Gold was trying to get out in front of via public statements this week. Joey Gilbert is suing & America’s Frontline Doctors for misuse of funds for a $3.6 million home in Naples, 3 cars, other misuse of funds, defamation, & more👇🏻
@GavinNewsom
I can’t even pay back the amount EDD accidentally overpaid me because I can’t get them on the phone. I am constantly dealing with the consequences of the states incompetence on top of my physical pain exacerbated by my inability to access care safely during covid. Unconscionable.
@EpiEllie
Further, it erases those of us who have sacrificed for over two years to avoid infection. I’ve turned down jobs, invitations, reunions, family traditions so my already autoimmune body doesn’t suffer the harm this virus could cause it.
@bonespower
Hi Deborah, I have the contact information of a lawyer interested in helping chronically i’ll people in this position. I don’t know if you’re able to connect with these folks to share this information, but I would be remiss not to reach out with the option.

i’ve had the opportunity to visit new york twice since 2020; neither trip would’ve been possible if not for airborne infection control— ventilation, filtration, & MASKING. austerity has already made sharing public air risky, a ban on masks is a modern ugly law—

@BernieSanders
Thank you for always being clear about the stakes, Bernie. We deserve more politicians like you who call the thing what it is: we are watching autocracy in action. No surprise that one of our few prominent Jewish politicians is always out front.
@luckytran
oh absolutely not. i cannot myself nor encourage others to patronize
@innoutburger
if they will not allow employees the autonomy to protect themselves even when their employers won’t. absolutely abhorrent.
@NikitaK_Singh

@micahflee
@drsimonegold
Micah, anonymous hacker—from the bottom of my heart as a lupus patient who relies on hydroxychloroquine, THANK YOU FOR THIS WORK. This grift has been allowed to fester leaving folks who need HCQ daily like me, with ongoing shortages. We deserve better.
#NoLicenseForDisinformation
@ASlavitt
Do you think anyone will face consequences for the immense and now clearly undue stress autoimmune people like me, with
#lupus
, were forced to endure when our essential medication was politicized and made scarce? This
#hydroxychloroquine
debacle has been a nightmare for us.
where are the lawsuits? i want to see folks promised covid safety then subsequently infected sue. i want to see immunocompromised people unable to safely ride in planes, busses, trains sue. enough of this. politicians are abandoning us, so lawyers— why not go get your bag ??
I appreciate the kinship that comes with being the only young(ish) one in the room with a mask on due to an illness others can’t see. The way the next paragraph undermines his extremely legitimate anxiety is not great though !!!!!! 🫠
@kairyssdal
I am angry that as an immunocompromised person, I, & the people that care about, are forced to shoulder the collective burden of those behaving cavalierly. I have been inside for 6mo, and watching others eat in restaurants etc feels like treating my sacrifice like it‘s nothing.
@AOC
Super funny how the GOP openly admitted to their coup on Twitter today, as if we didn’t have enough evidence already, and there isn’t a full sit in on the floor of congress?? AOC, we need leaders like you NOW.
As West Coast states seem to have made a coordinated decision to end mask mandates in high-risk spaces starting Apr 3, COVID safety groups across these states have coordinated to fight back!
Join us in urging officials keep masks in high-risk settings! 👇
@EpiEllie
i have major questions about far-uvc as a lupus patient that i don’t feel have been adequately addressed. maybe there is some amount of safety for quote unquote unquote unquote normal people, but if you’ve got existing UV sensitivity, what does that mean?
Oops! Cat is out of the bag. Most of us have complained that Covid isolation of 24 hours is too short. Now someone actually collected data. The MEDIAN time for Covid recovery is 20 DAYS! MEDIAN excludes all the LC cases (worst 22.3%). 50%, not 95% recovered in 20 days.
“People are developing new-onset disease as the result of an infection that they had 3 years ago,” says

, “It challenges the notion that these viruses are sort of self-contained or that after the acute phase, they become inconsequential.”

one girl wearing a mask in the dance class i 📸 today. mom (masked) was apologetic about her wearing it in the photo since she ~looked out of place~
future photo usage aside, i assured her other mitigation minded folks would be grateful for her presence: they’re not alone here.
@AOC
Huge agree. I’ll never forget when
@elonmusk
tweeted about my lupus medication, hydroxychloroquine, contributing to a deluge of disinformation that has resulted in shortages of the drug for rheumatic patients like me *to this very day*— I just paid 4x more for my rx this month.
@GenePark
@wagatwe
I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. I lost normal usage of my hands at 17 to lupus, which shares a lot of hallmarks of longcovid. You’re not alone, internet stranger 🙏🏼 other disabled people helped me feel that way when it was me. There’s a lot of folks out there for you too.

Whenever people tell me to just “stay home” bc I have lupus & everyone else should just be able to go eat indoors, it always strikes me that they don’t imagine disabled people are the ones serving them. The ones taking their photo at the wedding. Right in front of them. Sad, tbh.
@GoAngelo
I’ve taken to replacing “hydroxychloroquine” with “magic beans” in my head so I can make following this ongoing HCQ fervor a little more palatable to my autoimmune sensibilities. Figured I’d plant that little brainworm for ya. Lighten the mood. 🥴
Dr. Oz using dehumanizing rhetoric? Who could’ve ever have guessed his extensive unsavory history would continue & escalate! Anyway, never forget that Oz advocated for widespread hydroxychloroquine use despite the lack of data & harm to rheumatic patients!
grateful that santa monica hospital, where i was born, still appears to require masking! let’s keep it that way! so many others are seeing covid spread from patients to providers and back. literally why wouldn’t we prevent that???

that’s what i thought—not only does this kn95 mask appear to be upside down, it also reads “n95”—while companies like Demetech make n95 respirators in a bifold shape, it’s uncommon, & they wouldn’t be ear-loop. like come on
@CDCDirector
@CDCgov
—who did you hire for this hack job?
@BennettEmpty
highly recommend the functional pain scale. i have this saved on my phone so i can show it to doctors before i give them a score. that way i know we’re on the same page about what i mean.
@oneunderscore__
As a high risk person it is absolutely crazy making. Like what can’t you do? Because I can tell you everything I can’t do, like access the routine care I need for my chronic illnesses bc poorly thought our “restrictions” mean I can’t safely remove my mask.
#MyDisabledLifeIsWorthy
It's just wild to me how covid cautious people have been alerting each other (and anyone who will listen) to this surge a week before a publication as major as the
@latimes
danes to report on it. In the time wasted, so many more were needlessly infected.
@ParkerMolloy
shoutout to immunocompromised and disabled people who were yet again thrown under the bus not only in terms of our safety in these now maskless grocery stores, pharmacies, etc, but our ability to contribute to or even appear in those narratives at all !
@juliacarriew
i have lupus for which i take the drug hydroxychloroquine. i can’t pretend things were ever normal during this pandemic. it’s simply impossible. i think during the rare times i see friends, most appreciate that they can drop any of those pretenses too.
@hankgreen
the full quote is 🤌🏻
Alcuin: Nec audiendi qui solent dicere, Vox populi, vox Dei, quum tumultuositas vulgi semper insaniae proxima sit.
Do not listen to those who say that the voice of the people is the voice of God, since the tumult of the crowd is always close to madness.
@Imani_Barbarin
it is indeed wild to watch open mouthed screaming towards a person with an autoimmune disease heavily correlated with a virus trigger. the hollowest of gestures at best, a harmful display from people who will likely join our (autoimmune) ranks at worst
Shoutout to

this. the amount of folks who’ve told me that my taylor swift content specifically was a catalyst to changing their outlook & actions around mitigation astounds me to this day. those millions of views include trolls, sure, but they also represent broken chains of transmission.
@IngrahamAngle
They don’t need to because Biden isn’t a narcissists that abuses not only the other people on stage but, all of us subject to his actions.
@BernieSanders
Bernie is one of our few Jewish politicians, and his consistent leadership on calling the things what they are should not only be noted but lauded. It is the same lesson that every Museum of Tolerance intends to teach. Thank you Bernie.
