Maybe if we stopped compensating pediatric care at a 50% or lower rate for the same work, more people would be interested. It's unreasonable that peds across the board is comped at a huge discount relative to adult medicine. This is a predictable outcome. Change is needed.

Breathable, comfortable KF94 masks from Korea that meet or exceed N95/FFP2 standards are available for kids. No mask related deaths there or in the US in kids. Hundreds of kids have died of COVID, however. Why do you invoke mask related suffocation? What's your goal?

Given what plenty of MDs have gotten up to during this pandemic and otherwise, we should not be so quick to condemn the entire chiropractic field. Yes there are problems. Yes there needs to be structural change. But it's not so simple as they shouldn't even exist, IMO.

Still too slow. Unless there are major safety signals that aren't mitigable via dose, an EUA needs to be issued as soon as humanly possible. November is too late. This is an approved drug.

It's a respiratory virus AND it does all of these things. Respiratory pathogens have a long and distinguished history of doing these sorts of things -- hantavirus, OG SARS, avian and "Spanish" flu, etc. No?

The headline is about Pfizer, when it was Ventavia, a company that ran 3/153 sites, and was monitored by ICON in addition to Pfizer. Yes PFE is ultimately responsible, but this framing fuels conspiracy theories.

No. Delta is more transmissible and just as lethal as original SARS-CoV-2. Smallpox and polio would have just worn themselves out if it worked as you describe. Which they certainly did not.

It's a fair assumption based on other coronaviruses, but SARS-CoV-1 didn't do this -- mutate into a tolerable pathogen. As such, I don't understand the confidence this must happen with the sequel.

But we were taught in med school that urine was sterile. The lower respiratory tract too for that matter. I get that it's been found not to be sterile, but the confusion is definitely understandable.

What's the plan? We wait another couple of years? Kids are getting sick. Transmission in schools. PICUs are full. And the myocarditis in teenage boys but not girls strongly suggests a hormonal cause, which isn't present at 5-11y. 1/3 dose. Good titers. EUA needed now.

Exactly. It's ridiculous that the fact that flu has been so dramatically mitigated and yet we have so many covid deaths is seen as an argument against COVID's higher rates of morbidity and mortality. It's exactly the opposite. 🤷🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤯

My <12kids don’t have any options. Some got J&J and have no guidance, even the immunocompromised. No one is letting us do heterogous boosts or boosts at all. Feels like a futile, academic exercise, though I share the interest and love of data.

The eligible unvaccinated don't care or assuming availability, they'd have been vaccinated already. Because of poor dose ranging decisions, my 4 year old is just SOL, and I'm furious as Omicron bears down on us all.

The toning it down crew are basing their view on other coronaviruses, which isn't entirely unreasonable, but saying the virus has no where left to mutate to but milder is a terrible supposition without data to support it for this particular virus.

50% reduction with 1 dose of mRNA vaccine. Two doses almost certainly higher, but harder to measure because of the small number of events in fully vaccinated individuals. (When this work was done, pre delta). Get both doses!
Vaccination with mRNA vaccines reduces risk of transmission by 50%.
If you get vaccinated you protect yourself from COVID.

Boosters could make a difference based on the increase in neutralizing ab titers observed and how high titers are needed for delta. It seems folly to go into this winter without boosters. And EUA for 5-11yo ffs.

We don't know if it's mild or not yet, and earliest indications from SA are that hospitalizations in the youngest kids are up. Anyone saying it's mild in kids already has no data to support that statement.
