People in the 1900s were very ingenious. When their expensive ship, The Titanic, sunk they simply made the event into the film TITANIC which made over $1B. It was the age of Queen Victoria’s funeral and the movie FIGHT CLUB. I would liked to have explored the 1900s.

is the big crowd-pleasing Evil Dead movie we were hoping for. This EVIL DEAD rises to the occasion. Remixing all the best parts of the franchise to date, in a 1930s tower block, it moves from darkly funny to utterly savage. The audience went ballistic. Hurrah!

THE DARK AND THE WICKED is a beautiful film about grief, the the best jump-scare movie I’ve seen in a long time, and has a scene that made me slap my hands over my eyes and cry ‘noooooo!’.
Feels like A24 aesthetics meet the best of Blumhouse-style scares.

ABIGAIL is purely entertaining horror. It takes the knowing gothic escapades of READY OR NOT and applies them to a story of some ‘Usual Suspects’ crooks vs a vampire ballerina.
Gleeful and bloody.

From the bottom of my heart, I recommend this film to you. Big Charlie Kaufman influences, so much so that curmudgeons might portray it as “Kaufman-lite.” But it’s great: smart, thoughtful, heartfelt - and you should check it out!!
The more you change, the more you stay the same. Sebastian Stan, Renate Reinsve, and Adam Pearson face off in Aaron Schimberg’s twisted, darkly funny NYC noir A DIFFERENT MAN, in theaters this September.

Best review I’ve read of CIVIL WAR yet. Fully agree with every point, and “treats the U.S. the way Hollywood does the Middle East” is an incisive banger of a line.
Emphatically in the corner of Alex Garland’s “Civil War,” a visceral premonition that treats the U.S. the way Hollywood does the Middle East, and crafts such realistic and enrapturing war imagery that you can practically taste the gunpowder.
