Have to disagree. The "born this way" narrative was essential to securing mainstream acceptance of queer people. Without that narrative, it would have taken decades longer to get where we are now, assuming we ever got there at all. The benefits massively outweigh the drawbacks.

This is totally false. The writer is just assuming that everything she opposes must be tied together.
There is no meaningful sense in which transphobia is a "rich man's grievance", as evidenced by the multitude of poor and middle class transphobes out there.
I've talked a lot about transphobia as a form of misogyny, but it's also a form of snobbery. It's a rich man's grievance against a lower class, a boutique obsession as relatable to the average voter as yacht racing or polo. It's a gilded hatred projected onto the working class.
