I’m adopted by white people and my “dad” would shave off my hair as punishment or if he didn’t wanna deal with my hair. He neglected me. Finally I ran far when I was 18. I hadn’t spoken to him in almost 3 years and on my birthday in August, he texted me happy birthday. Fucked up.

It took a few years but I did. When I got my hair braided for the first time, I felt so fucking beautiful because it was all that I ever wanted. Last year, I shaved my head by myself to reclaim my identity and I learned that no matter what my hair isn’t what defines who I am.

It’s been 6 years since I started ED recovery. While I’m not used to being curvier, I feel healthier and more energetic than I used to. I would aimlessly bike everywhere and refuse to eat. I’m so much happier focusing on the better things in life ❤️ congrats on your journey ☺️

Tell her whole story if you’re gonna tell her story at all. She recovered, and then she passed while in recovery from traumatic brain injuries from everything she went through. She worked so hard to be almost a year sober and she should be remembered for her strength.

Something I will mention is that my childhood trauma didn’t make me anti black, but it made me afraid to be myself in front of other black people. I still get insecure about the way I talk and the way I do my hair. It’s essentially a huge fear of rejection that I’m working thru!
