That was because RU parked nukes in The Bay of Pigs. UKR has no nukes, they returned them to RU in the 90s. UKR's desire to join NATO was to keep RU from invading. Too bad NATO dragged its feet over that. If they hadn't, neither the '14 nor the '22 invasions would have occurred.
