Truly honored to win a teaching award
@harvardmed
!! Showing students interesting cases and yapping about why they should all choose radiology is one of my favorite pastimes. 😁
@BWHRadEdu
5 years, 3 national exams, 1 global pandemic, a lot of laughs and a tiny amount of sleep later... I matched Diagnostic Radiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston!! ☢️💀💉

So thankful for the village that got me here 🙏🏼
First day of residency ✅! I introduced myself to patients as Dr. Walker (😱), signed my first order (allopurinol), taught a med student something, found free lunch (💯), and lastly, decided “I can do this” 🎉
This was my first time submitting to the almighty
#RSNA
so I am thrilled by this! I will miss the networking and deep dish 🍕 this year but super excited to attend what I know will be an excellent virtual meeting!

elective complete ✅

with hyperintense excitement and mild to moderate nerves. Any doubts about this being the specialty for me can definitely be excluded. Recommend follow up in 7-8 months to see where I get to begin my dream job!

Having an R1 class as enthusiastic as this one sure makes being chief resident that much sweeter. Class selfies in the elevator on day 1 during the hospital tour was the ultimate green flag 😂. Can’t wait to watch them grow, they are shining already

I have a slow week. If any

need someone to look over personal statements, send them my way. Disclaimer: I didn’t finalize mine until a week before the deadline, so don’t worry if you haven’t written it yet. It’ll all work out. 😊
Did you even go to
@RSNA
if you didn’t take this pic? 🤓🧀 Having so much fun exploring radiology’s biggest week (and letters) with my amazing coresidents

Today is special bc it’s match day but also bc it’s my dad’s birthday! He has been my biggest cheerleader since day 1, battled cancer 2x, mounted tv’s in more of my apartments than I can count, can make me laugh in any situation, & is my best friend. Shoutout to the girl dads❤️
Warmed my heart when an interviewer remembered me from a speed mentoring event almost a year ago at RSNA19. Quick convos can leave lasting impacts. Is anyone planning on virtual networking for students at

Attending pre-interview mingles brings back the warm and fuzzy feelings I got on my interview day at
@BWHRadEdu
. I often get asked how I could tell I liked a program over zoom… One thing that translates perfectly over zoom is how well your interviewer knows your application.
@DavidLMayhew
@BrighamWomens
I’m a doctor at BWH and it took me six months to get in to establish care with a PCP. And that’s with a person who is hired to match residents with a PCP.

@BWHRadEdu

A perfect Boston rooftop evening!! Not pictured: an abundance of appetizers. Grateful as always for Resident Wellness Committee funding by the department

At the KC VA, we have one of the RTs take the interns on 10pm nurse rounds to ask each nurse if they need anything, compile a list of orders to place all at once when we’re done, and it significantly reduces overnight pages
As outgoing wellness chair for my residency program, this piece is really disappointing
@NEJM
. I’ve planned countless ‘wellness’ events that have brought my coresidents and I closer together, improving workplace morale & camaraderie. Dissing wellness initiatives is not the move..
NEJM has put out 3 separate pieces of anti-wellness content in the last few weeks.
Here’s the problem with their thesis - duty hour limitations are not a wellness intervention. They are a workers rights issue along with low wage labor, FMLA, and maternity leave.
I’m probably not the only one, but seeing this makes me sad. My heart goes out to all the clinical trial participants, their families, their doctors, and the scientists who keep fighting the good fight against cancer every day. Fall down 7 times, stand up 8.
Survived my urology rotation as an aspiring
#radres
. (Very) early mornings were offset by an abundance of imaging 🙌🏻. Some highlights: being TRUSted to do transrectal ultrasounds, and witnessing intra-abdominal renal ultrasound during robotic partial nephrectomy!
Congratulations to my mentor
@PChoyke
! I had no idea how lucky I was when I showed up at the NIH last year from Kansas and he let me join his lab. He's just as great a mentor as he is a radiologist, scientist, and leader 👏
A big congratulations to my mentor and colleague
@PChoyke
for being elected to the National Academy of Medicine. I am very proud to learn from him and work with him. 👍🙏
ID consults is wild. Day 2 and we diagnosed tularemia and Stevens-Johnson’s Syndrome 😱😱😱My attending is a walking encyclopedia but I was able to show him what perinephric fat stranding looks like 🥺

! More parents than ever have cancer— and more kids need the cancer support community to have their back along the way.
I’m grateful for such an organized virtual year-end celebration of science and the work of my med student colleagues from all over the country. To the NIH Medical Research Scholars Program class of 2020, “cheers”!!

Was told by my sub-I attending I could try to go to a big name residency program and be a small fish in a big pond or I could stay at their less prestigious program and be a chief resident...I went to
@ucsf
and became a chief resident

@pedsmd2b
Technically, it was my 10th! I had part-time jobs in high school, college, and even for three months in med school! Each and every one of them built character and taught me what good vs bad bosses look like.
@birgitomo
My favorite toy was a black ballerina Barbie. Honestly may have been a hand me down from my mom’s friend. When the movie Center Stage came out, I was obsessed bc Zoe Saldana reminded me of my favorite doll. When Misty Copeland became famous, I was obsessed for the same reason ❤️
Every graduating Jayhawk deserves to step onto the field. To sing one last Alma Mater. To see this symbolic finish line crossed. Yesterday's joint Commencement ceremony was an emotional and fitting end for two incredible classes. Here are a few highlights.

If you buy two $5 coffees /week every week for the entirety of school, the cost will be about $2400 for 4 years.
If such a routine gives you life, don’t NOT do it.
Saving $2400 is not going to make a real dent in the $400,000 you’re gonna owe from tuition.
Was an honor to hear from the brilliant, refreshingly human and always inspiring
@NIHDirector
Dr. Collins this week.

Absolutely!! Thankful to be graduating with at least rudimentary catheter skills, might even save urology a call or two during intern year!
