@IanWessels2 @SebastianEPayne Initiated yes, but also decided not to conclude them. The 99 year lease is the least of the issues, it would allow unfettered access to the other islands by anyone Mauritius decided to rent them to, and cease all protection for what is currently a massive marine nature reserve.

@chrisbenriordan @SebastianEPayne America aren't paying for it because they're already paying us an agreed rent for the air base. If we choose to give the islands to someone else and then rent them back that's entirely our problem.
