Greetings, #WritersofTwitter ! I'm the published writer of eleven short stories & three poems, currently working on a novel & a children's book series. As a writer, I don't think in terms of genres, but I love myth, folklore, magical realism, surrealism, allegory, & retellings.

@shaTIRED @ijustwanabethe1 Absolutely. And children can't even question authority or express displeasure with their situations without being dismissed as "disrespectful" or "ungrateful." They're expected to respect adults regardless of whether adults respect them. That's pretty much fascist ideology.

@haramcart Now my grandparents have died and my unmarried aunts remain living at their house. No one thinks any less of them for it. Stigmatizing people who live with their parents is just casual ableism. Not everyone is capable of living on their own.

In medieval Europe, especially Great Britian, it was believed there were tiny demons hiding in brussels sprouts. People made cross-shaped cuts on the sprouts to expel the demons before cooking them. Failure to do so would lead to food poisoning. #WyrdWednesday

@sacha_coward Don't forget Atargatis from Assyrian myth! She was a powerful priestess who accidentally killed her mortal lover, and tried to drown herself out of grief and remorse. But instead of dying, she turned into the first mermaid! She became the goddess of fertility, land, and sea.

In the Scottish Highlands, red deer—called fiadh ruadh in Gaelic—were once called fairy cattle, as it was believed fairy folk milked them on mountaintops. In Ireland, red deer are associated with the woodland goddess Flidais, who keeps a herd of deer & cows. #FolkloreSunday

The cat-sìth of Celtic myth takes the form of a large black cat with a white spot on its chest. Folklore claims it's either a fairy or a witch that can transform into a cat nine times. It can steal souls but will also bless homes that leave out milk on Samhain. #MythologyMonday

@HonkIfUrHoary I'm vegan and I would NEVER do that to my girl. She loves her canned salmon and whitefish and the occasional moth that gets into the apartment.

When the Egyptian war goddess Sekhmet goes on a violent, omnicidal rampage in the form of a lioness, the sun god Ra stops her by mixing jugs of beer with pomegranate juice. Thinking it's blood, Sekhmet drinks it & becomes so drunk she sleeps for three days. #MythologyMonday

In Cornwall, UK, are two sets of neolithic stones: the Merry Maidens & the Pipers. According to myth, 19 maidens were turned to stone for dancing on a Sunday, & the two pipers were also punished for playing music for them. #FolkloreThursday

In Germany in the 15th century, a Catholic clergyman wrote a witch-hunting manual called the Malleus Maleficarum. It claimed that witches stole male genitalia to keep as pets. They could communicate with them, put them in nests, & fed them oats. #WyrdWednesday

@ycsm1n Didn't those brothers murder their abusive parents? That's not even close to Dahmer raping and murdering innocent people. I don't believe a series called Monster is the best medium for their story.

Greek mathematician / philosopher Pythagoras & his followers never ate fava beans, for they believed they contained the souls of the dead. The flowers with their hollow stems were believed to connect earth to the underworld & provide a ladder for human souls. #FolkloreThursday

Look, I know it's not #MythologyMonday , but that damn transphobic wizard woman is trending again, and I feel like combating that with some ancient myths that feature trans folk. Feel free to add more. There's always room. #TransRightsAreHumanRights
