Shining a light and blowing the whistle on the chaotic and unpleasant goings on at PFEW. Run by those in the know hoping to encourage change for the better.
Police officers want increased pay, a ballot on industrial action, a solution (and apology) for the pensions scandal and a fit for purpose staff association. They don’t want extended election terms for PFEW officers, further medals or a bizarre roadshow from an unelected CEO.
Rank-and-file officers who show courage in the line of duty should be honoured with medals, Home Secretary James Cleverly has told the nation’s police bosses.
We take no pleasure in sharing this but it is important people see it. This is how the unelected CEO at
@PFEW_HQ
speaks to elected officials who disagree with him.
Imagine what unfairly suspended officers and officials, staff past and present have had to deal with?
So it’s official… despite years of denials,
@PFEW_HQ
’s Leatherhead base will be sold so it can meet the costs of litigation and raise further funds to put towards settlement with pension challenge claimants.

There is so much more to come, this is the tip of the iceberg…
@PFEW_HQ
says the majority do not share these views, go and have a look at the Glassdoor reviews for what the majority think.
One fact remains. Any organisation that effectively has to sell its HQ to stop itself going bankrupt following a legal challenge from its own membership is not fit for purpose. Has there ever been a more poorly run staff association? Reform must follow.
It seems change will never come
@PFEW_HQ
if left to their own devices. The Board and exec appear happy with the current set up, so, let’s be clear – they are culpable. As we reveal the next disturbing instalment, it is important to assume they are very aware of what we reveal.
1
Police officers will appreciate the support Home Secretary. However, they would also appreciate a full investigation into the shocking goings on at their staff association
@PFEW_HQ
before it is too late.
#PFEWDisconnect
Police officers show great bravery keeping us safe - it’s a disgrace they were subjected to violent attacks.
Time to restore respect for the police, for law & order and for each other.
We salute and stand with
@NWalesPoliceFed
. This is a brave move and one taken with the best interests of its membership at heart. We hope, and certainly encourage, other branches to follow suit. This branch board has shown it values the feelings of its membership above all else.
This is how
@PFEW_HQ
treats a branch chair who has given 12 years service purely because he had the audacity to support a colleague.
@Steve_Treharne
deserved better and so do you. We have his permission to share this. Let his words sink in…
Sergeant Kim Owen we wholeheartedly salute you. We shall be following this carefully. So, so sad that
@PFEW_HQ
’s exec, national board and national council have their heads so far up their own arses they are allowing this to happen to honest, hard working reps.
@NWalesPoliceFed
A disgraceful turn of events but one that comes as no surprise at all - we’ve been alluding to this coming for a while now.
All involved should hang their heads in shame.
Another day, another ludicrous, land grabbing suspension via
@PFEW_HQ
’s out of control CEO.
Will it ever stop? Not if those who can do something about this sit on their hands and wait their turn.
Imagine being suspended from your position for giving voice to your members concerns… especially if that concern relates to a reluctance to say and do a perceived controversial act… IF that’s indeed the real reason and not a flexing of muscle from the
@CEO_PFEW

Some very interesting articles in this month’s Your Voice magazine via
@NWalesPoliceFed
‘If I see something I feel is not right, I will challenge it. I will not turn a blind eye. It is doing this which resulted in the most devastating time of my 20-year policing career’
The biggest concern for members will no doubt be the evidence below that
@PFEW_HQ
wastes so much time in meetings, firefighting its own internal and self-inflicted problems, rather than actually trying to serve and support its members. This is not a functioning staff association.
We take no pleasure in sharing this but it is important people see it. This is how the unelected CEO at

It is interesting that legitimate fears from National Council members to hear more from the elected Nat Chair’s office is seen as rude and confrontational, but speaking to elected officers like this is seen as par for the course and even supported by some.
With the ink drying on another
@PFEW_HQ
suspension letter, how many members believe the organisation will act properly throughout? Probably a tiny percentage. Why? No other organisation does a kangaroo court quite like PFEW…
Let’s pop back to October 2023. ‘PFEW to ballot members on pursuing industrial rights’ was the banner. ‘Vote to be launched in the near future to give rank and file officers a voice in the matter’. Near future. Remember that.
And finally, the ‘I don’t need this shit’ finale. Also, we have heard from many, many sources that members have asked why he appears to be the unelected voice of
@PFEW_HQ
on his ‘roadshows’. Nobody has answered.
What happens when you arrogantly believe you (amongst many other things) can create roles for associates on a whim, dismiss people & buy silence, spend millions on consultants & generally take branches and the membership for granted? This happens. Well done
@GwentPoliceFed
Who holds the CEO to account.
The CEO is not accountable to the policing code of ethics.
The CEO is not accountable to the
@PFEW_HQ
rules, which his office use’s to propagate fear and retribution against anyone who criticises the organisation.
The CEO is not accountable to the
More well measured questions worthy of a response. If the National Board continues to bury its head in the sand and back itself into a corner on this issue, will more branches comes forward? And how will they regain the confidence of branches? Ultimately, what are they hiding?
Today the Branch Board of Hampshire Police Federation has sent the following open letter to the Chair and Secretary of the Police Federation of England and Wales.
How can it hold anyone to account? How can we take it seriously when it claims it will fight misogyny and bullying yet it treats complaints like this. How much more can we take and when will someone take action?
15
'By the time my pension's sorted, will I be here?' - a shocking case study. But the rank and file’s staff association has other priorities… like extending their election periods & pointless roadshows for a handful of members. Change must come.
After years of dedicated public service, thousands of police officers and other public sector workers are still not receiving their full pension entitlement and as this article highlights, many are seriously ill and may never get what they and their family’s rightly deserve.
If each branch asked its membership whether or not it should follow
@NWalesPoliceFed
’s lead, every region would be told by its membership to issue a vote of no confidence. We know that, you know that, they know that. So, the question is, who are they serving?
So further news about this week’s visit to
@NWalesPoliceFed
for
@PFEW_HQ
’s CEO. We are told by someone in attendance they were ‘absolutely gobsmacked’ by his behaviour. ‘He had the audacity to demand an apology from the branch for the open letter’ they tell us.
@PFEW_HQ
There is much more to come and we will continue to work with the media and politicians to highlight this as we push for a staff assoc for rank and file police officers that truly has their best interests at heart.
This gravy train needs derailing if the brakes won’t be applied.
This week
@PFEW_HQ
has correctly made clear its disappointment at the 4.5% pay rise officers will receive from September. So imagine how disappointed staff will have been today (on pay day), not to have been paid at all.
Sadly, those who challenge the status quo
@PFEW_HQ
end up facing the same horrific treatment. Good people are dealing with this right now.
There are so many examples that it would be quite frankly, ridiculous to believe this is not the case.
It is a question many ask. Alex Duncan appointed him when he was Nat Sec. Alex retired and Mukund retained him as a consultant. That makes sense. However, it’s not clear why he was appointed CEO.
We’re hearing interesting things re trustees too and further jobs for ‘friends’.
@PFEW_HQ
To those who continue to bury their heads in the sand… a warning. If you tolerate this, then you will be next.
It has happened too many times for anyone to believe they could be immune. Don’t say we didn’t warn you…
Yes, very aware of the same.
Just imagine how good it could be if they put so much energy into improving the organisation.
Absolute shambles - hence the need for a Whistleblower to expose the continued wrong-doing. As long as there are cover ups there will be an exposé.
@PFEW_Whistle
Whistleblower,
Sad that Polfed finds itself pre-occupied with their pursuit of internal politics. I understand huge swathes of their time, money and effort is spent trying to identify and locate you rather than on their core business...
Eyes open, heads down...
When the arrogant are allowed to lead, and supposed dissenting voices (who are actually the voice of reason) are forced out, the complacent charlatans tend to walk head first into a scandal of their own making…
It can sometimes be poetic, prophetic or pathetic. Or all three.
@PFEW_HQ
have now got a fight on their hands!
They’ll either have to double down on their ridiculous jumped up suspension being based on
@mpfchairman
legitimate comments raising
@MPFed
member feelings/concerns
Or
Admit this was a jumped up internal governance move because
We know of further votes of no confidence in the senior leadership team at
@PFEW_HQ
. Will the response continue to be dismissive or will they soon sit up and take notice and action.
#untenable
A look at our X account outlines and exposes how out of touch the rank and file’s only staff association is. Political intervention is badly needed before the millions of pounds the org had in reserve have been squandered on consultants and unnecessary director level appointments
Tensions were high at the recent
@PFEW_HQ
National Council meeting where, we can reveal, surprise, surprise, the big CEO salary reveal didn’t happen. 1
@PoliceChiefs
@YvetteCooperMP
@MarkJonesey
Serious misconduct’ being asking how much the CEO earns? ‘Peers’ being a kangaroo court as previously reported. He still doesn’t know who the complainant was either. We wonder why?

Monday morning quiz. What has increased by 500 per cent in three years at
@PFEW_HQ
?
Answer: leased cars. From £30k in 2020 all the way up to £180,000 in 2023. (That’s not even including the £25,832 for installing charging points).
@PFEW_HQ
However, we believe they will catch the attention of the new Home Secretary
@YvetteCooperMP
and then we shall see just how good the professional bullshitters
@PFEW_HQ
truly are.
16.
Nobody in policing (inside or outside the organisation) can watch the above and believe
@PFEW_HQ
is an org being run
in the bests interests of its members.
It is being run by the few for the few.
More issues
@PFEW_HQ
(obviously), this time with HMRC. News reaches us that the Fed has not paid Corporation Tax for four years. Nothing since 2020!
What’s that coming over the hill….? It’s not a monster but another massive bill…
@MichaelSouther7
@PFEW_HQ
He does. It baffles many as to why the current executive and National Board have put a non elected, non interviewed person in a position of such power. Who knows what has been promised?
The job was never advertised. It’s not a good look at all.
@grahamwettone
@Rich_Cooke1
Key decision makers and many who have failed and made incredibly poor decisions over the last five years remain. They all hold high positions now and are every bit as much to blame despite denials and finger pointing.
Our movement is growing. For all of those members, staff, reps and branches suffering at the hands of the Fed as they continue to bury their heads in the sand, enjoy these from
@tacti_fresh
on Instagram. Have a good weekend all and strap in for next week… 👀
@PoliceChiefs
@YvetteCooperMP
@MarkJonesey
@PFEW_HQ
In July 2023 North Wales rep Ceri Hawe resigned from her national seat after
@PFEW_HQ
essentially brushed complaints from two female student officers against a Pol Fed Rep under the carpet. Complaints were made against him due to his conduct towards these student officers.
7
We see the truly dismissive response coming from
@PFEW_HQ
in reply to the serious and legitimate concerns of some branches and the wider membership. ‘Internal disruption’, ’tolerance…has reached its limit’ etc. It is poor but not surprising, staff have endured this for years.
So they say people in glass houses should not throw stones. Well
@PFEW_HQ
is made of glass and they throw a lot of stones. But when the mental health or patience of staff breaks, they care very little. Let us look at the reviews on the aptly named website Glassdoor. A thread… 1
@PoliceChiefs
@YvetteCooperMP
PFEW’s response to the petition launched last week claiming it ‘emanates from a disgruntled branch’ is an arrogant dismissal of concerns and a kick in the teeth to every serving officer who has signed the petition and who pays subs to this self-serving staff association.
3
@PoliceChiefs
@YvetteCooperMP
So, we need to up the ante. And we can. PFEW’s response to the above concludes that
@MarkJonesey
was ‘judged by a group of his peers to have been guilty of serious misconduct’.
4
A response will come but it will be poor. The initial response has been for consultants to prepare a statement for the CEO, in the Nat Sec’s name saying the National Board ‘unequivocally supports the CEO’.
*feigns surprise*
No update on Nat Chair & Dep Nat Sec (still absent). Votes of no confidence from branches. Selling your HQ to pay for action brought by your own members. Your letter to the
@PoliceChiefs
was laughed at. You’ve got a multitude of more important things to deal with.
Tiffany Lynch, Acting National Chair said:
"The new ITV show titled 'Piglets' is highly offensive to police officers risking their lives to protect the public every day providing an emergency service."
Read the full statement below:
@PoliceChiefs
@YvetteCooperMP
@MarkJonesey
@PFEW_HQ
The question is, with so much dirt on a rep, what would they do to protect their position? Make up spurious complaints against a branch secretary annoyingly asking legitimate questions about executive pay perhaps? Who knows? They do.
13
‘In line with Appendix 9, the panel was made up of three elected reps. Two were members of the NB with experienced (sic) in matters of standards and governance’
One had responded to an email offering his undying support for the CEO, but that’s not mentioned.
Kangaroo Court 🦘
Incidentally, we have seen disingenuous statements coming out of HQ following the first vote of no confidence. We are not linked with any branch nor have we worked with one. It may feel like an ‘organised campaign’ purely because so many are so furious with the actions of so few.
We’re receiving a number of questions you’d expect members to ask
@PFEW_HQ
. Clearly they feel, with the constant veil of secrecy, they will not get an answer or any meaningful support.
Does this mean we are now the ‘Acting Staff Association’ for rank and file officers?
We’ll correct one slight inaccuracy in the article - Mukund joined in 2019 (not 2021) as Operations Director having been a consultant at PFEW with Accenture for many years before. Accenture are still on the scene, raking in the cash…
There is plenty to be said on this matter and there is lots we have been working on going on in the background.
That time is not now, but it soon will be.
@PoliceChiefs
@YvetteCooperMP
@MarkJonesey
@PFEW_HQ
We know who the person is, the branch and the details of the complaints but will not share them for now in the hope PFEW, for once, acts responsibly and seeks to make amends.
8
If not, they need to publicly speak out and demand answers on the shocking thread below. If that doesn’t happen, let us assume they do not care and let’s ensure we remember that moving forward. This should make for interesting reading for
@PoliceChiefs
and
@YvetteCooperMP
too.
2
Did someone say ‘jobs for the boys’?. Interesting. Now before we start this, we want to make it clear we have no issue with people accepting the jobs offered to them and as such do not want this to be taken as so. Therefore, we will not be naming those involved.
How does hiring:
A new COO
A new Finance Director
A new Chief of Staff
And
A new member of in house Counsel to protect the legal interests of the federation (not its membership), from…on occasion your own professional networks… On salaries (based on market value) circa £100k
Election Day special. Interesting to note that
@PFEW_HQ
has an ‘Acting National Chair’. No announcement to the membership, no explanation. Given the National Chair is/was elected by the membership, surely they have the right to at least be made aware of the change…?
The failings of the police federation, both historic and recent, are in no small part responsible for the increase in other police support networks and associations as noted in the Normington review.
For over two decades the organisation has been embroiled in controversy from
‘The important job of representing and backing our members out there policing the streets of London continues unaffected’
The important job of representing, and speaking out on behalf of members, should not lead to suspension
@PFEW_HQ
@PoliceChiefs
@YvetteCooperMP
@MarkJonesey
@PFEW_HQ
The misconduct was proven, but rather than being dismissed for what most would deem far more serious allegations than those against Mark, he was given a final written warning.
9
‘Yet they have the temerity to call forces out over similar treatment’.
Do as we say, but don’t do as we do.
@PFEW_HQ
is broken and it needs fixing and soon.
It’s been a busy few weeks at Whistle Central but we’ll soon have some further information to share…
However, we could not let this tweet pass without comment. What on earth? You’d expect better from the PR machine paid £33k a month as a retainer. Bristol Police Fed?
@PFEW_Whistle
I was the author of the original email and
@CEO_PFEW
alleges that I have put across many inaccuracies within, without then providing anything specific.
I responded again to the CEO's email so there is no context to his response.
It's a shame I haven't got this!!
PFEW talks a lot about helping officers deal with misogyny yet dismissed the proven complaints of two student, female officers and bought their silence in its usual sordid style. Just imagine what it would be saying if a police force did this to protect a senior officer?
14
Real change must come from inside but if those in charge continue to bury their heads in the sand, we shall continue to expose the ill treatment of staff, the wasting of members’ money (particularly on consultants) & the process of ruining the careers of those who speak out.
@PoliceChiefs
@YvetteCooperMP
@MarkJonesey
@PFEW_HQ
Whistle has also obtained information which reveals the two complainants were paid £10,000 on the basis they agreed to sign NDAs (what else) and the complaint disappeared. Until now.
10
The vast majority of the membership is fully behind branches seeking answers to the serious questions they have been asking for too long for. The sycophants who rush to support and jump when asked will be remembered once further steps towards true reform have been taken.
The last line of the paragraph says: ‘some files have been corrupted and are therefore inaccessible’.
160 leaver files in three years? And that isn’t a complete picture as some files are now inaccessible. Really? Does that not concern anyone on the national board or council?
@PFEW_HQ
Staff continue to be bullied into submission and forced out of the door with more cases becoming apparent each week. Members of the exec continue to be missing in action allowing one person to continue to make sweeping changes to the structure to the detriment of the organisation
@PoliceChiefs
@YvetteCooperMP
@MarkJonesey
@PFEW_HQ
The person remains in post, Ceri remains shocked, and the two student officers presumably remain dismayed by the outcome and the willingness of a police staff association to buy silence rather than see justice handed down.
12
The place is full of people looking to feather their own nest. Staff top level positions now filled with CEO supporters who are rewarded numerically for loyalty. Those who challenged removed. Similar things happening with NC and NB.
@PFEW_HQ
The issue is you are not trusted by your membership because everything is smoke, mirrors and bullshit. Properly reform and people will trust you and get behind the process.
This video is interesting but leads to more questions than it provides answers. At 9.45 it is claimed
@CEO_PFEW
has not any ‘involvement whatsoever in relation to the pension issue… (or) judgement until my appointment as CEO’. He wants to be really clear on that.
In the latest episode of our CEO Direct video series, I answer some of our members’ recent questions and provide updates on the direction of travel for
@PFEW_HQ
. Catch our conversation on YouTube, link to watch is below.
@NJB781
@cate_a_moore
The salary is higher than the Prime Minister’s. The current executive board has allowed an ops director, and then chief operating officer to appoint himself to CEO whilst throwing staff members in the bin (with NDA’s and pay offs), whilst recruiting associates and friends.
It needs to happen again. And this time the Fed cannot be left alone to implement the recommendations. It must be compulsory.
Either that or police officers need to be presented with a choice of a new, forward thinking staff association.
@PFEW_Whistle
But a Home Office commissioned “full investigation” has been done before; maybe 10 years ago. I had a role after, but left because I could tell the steam had run out of the desire for change. TBH, your structure is a bit mad, with terrible confusion between elected and paid.
@JJSharpers
@ConradGerrard
@leembroad
To the point that more than £700,000 (that we know about) has been spent paying them off (just staff) in three years. It is now time for them all to ask the same questions as they would if this was their regional police force. Silence is compliance.
Later today we shall release a statement with further information about who we are and why we are doing this. To colleagues being bullied or suffering in silence know that we are here to help you and you can reach out in confidence.
‘One of the dirtiest and greatest injustices I have ever witnessed in my policing career’.
Carried out by a staff association against one of its own branch secretaries for daring to ask difficult questions.
What’s this latest saga about? The ludicrous dismissal of a hard working and well liked colleague. We understand the Nat Chair also spoke out in support of him. There then followed a meeting behind Nat Chair’s back where they discussed whether his future was still viable.
@PFEW_HQ
And are the panel members
@MaryWBousted
,
@IStephanieBoyc1
and Peter Vicary-Smith, who promised a thorough review, aware of this connection and, if so, why are they comfortable with it?
So we have had a response from a very good source which will copy below this 🧵
NC members and members need to start asking what is happening here. Instead of scaring ex employees on LinkedIn or worrying about ‘piglets’, this should be their work.
@PFEW_Whistle
hi guys, can we find out how many Judicial Reviews have been submitted or are in the pipeline concerning officers being dismissed re vetting having been successful at a disciplinary hearing.
There does seem to be increased emphasis on a 2nd/3rd bite of the cherry.
Completely correct that officer welfare and safety should always be the priority. Our thoughts remain with all involved. However, those same officers deserve representation that matters and reflects the dangerous job they do and they are not getting that from
@PFEW_HQ
Thanks to colleagues who continue to get in touch and ask questions of PFEW. The hunt for the truth is well and truly on. An Interesting FOI has been brought to our attention. A recent request for the cost of the
@PFEW_HQ
’s CEO Direct videos - £4,600!
@PFEW_HQ
During the meeting, the CEO was pressed for greater clarity on his role and became irate with claims suggesting he is ‘overreaching’. Out came the dummy and after a few expletives came the words ‘if you want me to resign, I’ll resign’. For what it’s worth, we bet he would not.
