The fact the officer has to verbally explain his reasoning & justification & even show the machete to the gathering crowd is a sad indictment of our time.
Great work by the officers - 👏
Is it me or is society becoming more entitled & toxic. People shouting at a funeral cortege because its their right? People protesting against a grieving family because they are entitled to do so? What happened to manners & respect? Not easy policing this - everyone's an expert.
@amandajplatell
Seriously? Detective superintendents don't wear 'police uniform' - hardly skin tight but thought navy dress looked great 🤷♂️
Her shoes - seriously! 🙈
Yep, she has her hair done 🤷♂️
Appalling comment - needs deleting.
No one trespassed on the cenotaph - officers protected that all day - I notice no thanks or gratitude for the officers for the hostility they faced from the right wing groups. To date, Met Commissioner completely vindicated & command team deserve thanks plus all officers working.
Remembrance weekend is a time for us to come together as a nation and remember those who fought and died for our freedoms.
The unacceptable scenes today disrespect their memory.
This image encapsulates the level of force available to UK police, their restraint & professionalism in using it and the courage all three show in running towards an unknown risk. Gun / Taser / Baton.
This is PC Abdulkayum, know as Kay. He passed out from Hendon in July 2019. On Sunday he lost his battle with cancer & today we held a minutes silence in his honour & out of respect for one of our own. He was a shining light at Training School and was always smiling 😢😢
Community engagement comes in many forms.....you just need to watch the reaction of the young people around him 👏👏
Yes, he was probably on duty & available to take calls if need be & will have arrested burglars etc previously....but on this day - This was his role 👇
This is excellent work by an off duty officer - proportionate & reasonable use of force - excellent communications as well. Interesting to see the schoolchildren present were the ones calling 999 - not the concerned adults. Sooner believe a robbery suspect. 🙈
The shock I got while driving to see a man grab a white boy from his neck off his bicycle and struggling forcefully with him- OMG. Got out to try to stop it/make sure the boy was OK. It was an off duty police officer-he said the boy had a knife & had threatened other kids.
This happened back in May....in the news now because?
I would also challenge the term 'clearly racist' as no evidence has been provided to support that.
Police officers know that this unduly lenient sentence will be literally rammed down their throats in taunts & jibes at every stop/search or incident. They will get 'I can kill you & only get 16 years - easy time officer'. Dont be surprised if some in policing take a step back.
This day - still no one convicted despite 30/40 at least present when he was murdered protecting fire fighters from attack. Deployed that day but dismissed before serious disorder - poor MPS command & control. Review led to Gold, Silver & Bronze structure- RIP Keith.
Six times more likely to be stopped in your vehicle if you are BAME? Are vehicle stops under the RTA counted based on ethnicity? Many vehicles I stopped I had no idea of the ethnicity until the driver got out.
Never switch off - dynamic risk assessment. This is how quickly the incident can be escalated by the suspect - handcuffs first? If the info/intelligence is to search for a knife then it may be justified. Safety first - effective communication doesn't prevent this.

Great retirement do last night - inspector retires after 30 years & still doing shift work & front line policing. He was the most senior rank present - around 40 of his present & previous team members attended but none of the leaders. Really poor leadership 🤷♂️🤬
Arrested for breaking the public space protection order ie she is not to go within a certain distance of the clinic - NOT for praying in her head! The officer was professional, polite & acting lawfully. So many jumping to the wrong conclusion here - facts matter.
More on the arrest of Isabel-Vaughan-Spruce, who has been charged with breaking a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) for praying silently nearby an abortion facility in Kings Norton, Birmingham, on four occasions.
The right decision and he should never have been charged or stood trial for this.
Grateful thanks to the jury members who came to the only possible conclusion. One person was responsible - the one driving dangerously & refusing to stop - not a joyrider..a thief with 53 previous.
Several media sources, mp's & presenters might want to retract statements made at the time - and some ex senior police officers. Lancashire Police cleared over release of Nicola Bulley’s personal information
Just a reminder to the policing family - this day marks an awful reminder of the sacrifice some police officers make.
One of the murderers is now walking free after Mrs May as home Secretary agreed his release on life licence.
RIP Foxtrot 11
I see a professional police officer - surrounded by colleagues, friends & policing family. No gender, ethnicity or religious factors - just a member of my extended policing family. No issue with height either! Front & centre confronting violence - well done 👏👏
@EssexPR
@metpoliceuk
Deliberately staged to cause the crowd gathered to react - the officers pushed him back - not down - he chose to fall down. The cordon is clear and he chose to try to walk through it - completely proportionate use of force by the officers. Nothing to see here.
As predicted - 👇
Without his knowledge & quickly removed.
Let's hope all those criticising will now apologise & retract their comments.
The original post should be removed & apology issued.
I have never ever heard such a moving & heartfelt statement after a court verdict by Lissie Harper. No dry eyes here.
Those three men showed no remorse at all & one gave a false alibi - he lied yet a jury believed their account. Policing is let down again by the justice system.
The absolute epitome of how the Met police for these types of events. I doubt any radio phone ins or media will focus on the consumate professionalism of these officers. More interested in placards & gates & falsehoods. Great job SEG 👏
For the avoidance of any doubt for numerous protest groups & armchair critics on twitter - this 👇 is what a police state looks like - you have arguably one of the best police services in the world in the UK.
Police officers in Moscow today are stopping people, demanding to see their phones, READING THEIR MESSAGES, and refusing to release them if they refuse. This from Kommersant journalist Ana Vasilyeva.
Does make you wonder why this game was ever scheduled as an 8pm kick off? Whole day drinking time - possible late finish at Wembley on a Sunday....travel issues....I'm not sure that would have been on police advice. 🤔
Effective use of non lethal option otherwise known as taser. For all the critics out there - the next tactical option is a firearm.
Great work
@metpoliceuk
@LambethMPS
For me & from my understanding - this is around support & backing from senior management. The officers know & accept accountability for actions but want managers to support them. They don't feel they have it.

officers stopped a vehicle shown registered in Scunthorpe. Checks on the vehicle established that it was on false plates & linked to reported thefts of catalytic converter's in Wandsworth Road. 2 males now in custody awaiting interview. ^280AS
13,000 to replace the 20,000 that Mr Cameron & Mrs May removed. Replacing experienced officers with recruits - not forgetting the 20,000 support staff they also removed.
🎯 13,576 additional police officers have been recruited to forces across the country so far — as we continue our national recruitment drive towards 20,000 extra officers.
These recruits are already out on the beat, helping to cut crime & make our streets safer.

Another statement - no official complaint? Just media interviews. Key points repeated about manner of driving, failing to stop when requested to do so & refusal to get out of the car when it stopped. Will someone ask them why please?
@policeconduct
@metpoliceuk
Your statement focusses on racism yet the officers were exonerated for that? An independent organisation would show more balance & definitely more speed in an investigation like this.
Heard many asking for swift & prompt action to stop these obstructions going up. This was both...takes less than a minute to put these up & get someone locked on....excellent work by the Met here.

Time of arrival 12 minutes - that's after running out of the briefing room for the early turn parade - NOT 22 minutes. The suspect then needed locating & detaining - after injuring two colleagues with a sword. Amazing response by all involved 👏
'We were on the ground in 12 minutes.'
The Met Commissioner gives an update on the Hainault sword attack, telling
@NickFerrariLBC
some of his police officers have suffered 'horrifically serious injuries.'
Good to see some sensible decision making in London last night around public order policing. Officers in full protective kit with shields to deal with serious disorder. So much better than flat caps & high visibility jackets and using non public order trained officers (level 3).
"It's off the scale today"
During the protests in Plymouth, Bronze Commander, Inspector Ryan North Moore, told Sky News how difficult it is to control this level of violence with the current "resources we've got".

Government really need to act when senior police chiefs start to call for a pay rise for their officers. Officers cannot strike - the staff organisation cannot threaten strike action in any 'negotiations' and that is used to impose low pay increases.
A very wise & experienced public order commander used to tell us in his pre event briefing - 'adopt your section of the crowd'. This sort of policing happens at every major public event yet many on SM choose to highlight only negative aspects of policing. Well done that officer.
Leadership here - in bundles - I don't always agree with some leaders or Met commissioners but credit where its due. He is totally correct in this instance.

Can I watch the news or read a paper yet without an embittered former police officer being quoted in a negative story about policing? Respect to every officer who has turned up this weekend & answered those 999 calls - I cannot say the same to those who now criticise the service.
@sophielouisecc
Sophie please delete this - its 5 years old & has been dealt with.
Stop with the click bait - it's professionally embarrassing for you to drag this up.
Nice to see MOP stepping in to assist rather than just filming on their phones. Before the 'experts' start - yes knee strikes are authorised & permitted especially after the suspect swings at your head. Any use of force will be justified by those on scene.
Well done to the officer involved in this incident, a quick dynamic risk carried out and suspect detained.

Completely refuted - by an actual senior officer in the Met. Let's hope the same media outlets quick to report the allegation will also report the response with equal balance.
You know you have instilled the right dedication & commitment to policing when you receive a pic like this from a former trainee. So proud of all of them working today & just a bit envious.
I wonder how many police critics & experts could do what these two officers did? I have the T shirt & lovely to see two of my old EG/spotting teams restoring some order.
@JamesCleverly
@CPhilpOfficial
This just feels like it is still being used as political point scoring with the Met in the middle. The longer clip showed the reality of that 'walk' with a security team & declined the offer of being escorted into the counter protest location.
Nail on the head doesn't come close enough to describing the excellent assessment
@mrjamesob
. Been saying this for years & successive ministers have lied about it. Didn't see the report? 😂😂😂
I don't understand this - regardless of pre event intell (I used to write those)-meetings with organisers (attended those) - when you see live on TV news teams being threatened you have to deploy resources to 'police' that gathering. Poor explanation.
West Midlands Police discuss disorder that kicked off after misinformation spread online. The Sky News crew covering the unrest in Birmingham were followed by a man holding a knife and wearing a balaclava after broadcasting live.
Apparently you MUST have a degree in ANY subject to be able to lecture/teach police recruits. Agree with being passionate & having operational experience but requiring a degree? Think I did OK without one 🤷♂️
Astonishing BWV showing selfless courage & bravery. This epitomises majority of police officers in the UK.
Doubt this piece will get as much coverage as ' burglary detection rates' but you can hope. Brings back memories of a couple of similar jobs for me.
Well done Met officers
Officers fearlessly ran into a burning building to rescue those trapped inside.
They arrived in under five minutes and thanks to their quick action no one suffered serious injuries.
Seven officers and six residents were taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and
@friendofjeremy
You could deduce he was motionless AND wasnt able to then move & detonate the device? Easy being brave & watching the video TWICE from behind a smart phone....the officers had split seconds to asses & act...facing what was in to all intents an 'explosive device'.
Yet, she has never been held to explain or account for her decimation of UK policing together with a few other questionable decisions & policies. Rewarding failure.

Shocking footage demonstrates "the heroism shown by these officers is nothing short of exceptional" as they separate the attacker from the victim.
Hmmm - how many search warrants has the home secretary applied for?
You need a warrant to enter property to search for stolen items so you have to convince a magistrate that 'find my phone' is accurate enough to grant that warrant - best of luck ma'am. 👍
'If a victim of theft can show evidence from find my phone, this type of lead will be sufficent for the police to take action.'

That is not the true story & if you watched & listened to the video clip you know that. Arrested for breaking a public space protection order NOT for praying. I look forward to you retracting that statement & apologising to the Police service?
Told you so years ago when this was first proposed - as did many others. Police chiefs listened & acquiesced to academic leads in policing about how to implement recognition of policing as a profession. Served ambitions of some to detriment of policing.
Highly impressive briefing by
@DC_Police
chief constable Shaun Sawyer on the incident in Plymouth. Answering questions & points raised. A 6 minute response time is astonishing & exceptional.

Astonishing - court result = suspended sentence 🤷♂️ - broken justice or no justice system. Victims at the heart of criminal justice system? Not a chance.
Police officer dragged 650ft by car 'lucky not to have been killed'
A priority for government & policing is harassment & violence towards women. I'm sure many will question her position now as an elected representative. Her character referees were interesting. via

Well done McDonald’s - no idea why this qualifies as 'news'? Officers allowed to use a toilet & sit down for a short break. Officers on these events spend hours on their feet without a break at all.
Initially lied about who put the images on their coats - didn't give evidence - found guilty but conditional discharge for supporting prescribed organisation. Police did their job......broken CJS.
Recruit from where?
Where will they be based as more police stations sold than kept?
Your 'beat' should be walkable, even in London it can take 45 mins plus to walk to your 'beat'.
Policing can not retain officers, let alone recruit them - many have -5 yrs service.
Rishi Sunak has pledged a return to 'bobbies on the beat' as he promised to recruit 8,000 more neighbourhood police officers if the Tories win the general election
@MPFed
Not subject to criminal investigation or complaints investigation as far as I am aware? Nothing to stop the officers body worn being released. From what I heard so far the officers were polite & respectful.
On way to London for Police Bravery awards - very honoured, privileged & thrilled to be attending. The real face of British policing will be celebrated & recognised tonight. Hope some media will cover the astonishing acts of bravery.
Hearing the mutual aid button has been pressed for Kent Police. Met deploying public order officers to aid Kent police. This is not the fault of the Police & feel for all the drivers stuck at Dover. The testing regime needs to be started asap.
Mainly because so many are leaving policing mid service. Government, senior officers & college of policing have all contributed to turning policing away from being a vocation. Short term direct entry scheme & other policies have done this.
Yesterday evening, Police Officer Jonathan Diller received a dignified transfer home. Jonathan was killed while protecting the City of New York. We will never forget the ultimate sacrifice that was made by Jonathan and his family.

This must have taken 30 secs - if you ever work in the West End the request for pictures is frequent. No wonder the senior officer is anonymous ..🤷♂️

That can all be explained & I would have done the same as the officers. I'd sooner be investigated for banging on someone's window & drawing my asp than being run over. His driving was poor & overtook the marked unit when the blue lights activated.
