@EYemmCoon @WINMinnesota This is so good. Blackwell is honestly a good writer - of her time, of course, but I am impressed with how she turns a phrase.

TIL that Dorothy Dix - the pseudonym of the columnist who advised women not to study medicine in 1937 - became an honorary member of the Medical Women's National Association in 1933. "She is a physician who heals the aching hearts and troubled minds of suffering humanity." Hmm.
Here is a letter to an advice columnist, 1937. "I am engaged, we're both studying medicine. He says it's fine but I want to be the best wife, what should we do?" What should she do, dear reader? What would you tell her? What do you think Miss Dix will tell her? 2/10
