Massive Thank You to
@LAS_HART
for the hospitality to help work out how Advanced Practice can help and work together. Learnt loads and confirmed HART is not for me. That tunnel was tight
@KateBurkeNHS
Can we specifically second women in their 20's to mid 30's to the intelligence corps. They seem to find everyone at a party on social media within 48hrs...
After feeling in a bit a professional rut and looking at options, pleased to say I've been successful in my application to the
@Ldn_Ambulance
rotational paramedic program. Looking forward to the next 12 months.
I've had to travel with the patient to hospital a couple of times over the last few shifts who I have done pre hospital bloods on.
Needless to say, a decent amount of surprise at handover, when you have the acid base and U+Es in your handover
@pinstripedline
@LessCrime
Looking at the pictures of when vanguards left and returned, I am pretty sure that Truss' letter never made it to a deployed sub. Making her the first in almost 60 years to not have had one carried at see.
@abbdesmond
Always wave at kids.
Have you done the opposite though
Change the siren to the annoying high pitched one as you go past the adults with fingers in ears?.....
So on behalf of
@brc_para
. It's been a blast. Thanks for all the support over the years but it's time to put the drugs away and see you all on the other side, whatever that will be. Para1 Out
@willprice999
So ambulance services are commissioned and paid to provide this admission service(it was in last national draft contract I read) It is up to the service how it is done. So talk to your management about PTS provision to free up front line.
@miriam_khalil13
Lecturer, who had Type 1 diabetes comes back from toilet with urine pot (Filled with lemon tea). Second lecturer puts finger in, tastes, says 1st lecturer has glucose in urine. Student points out different finger. 2nd lecturer, picks up sample pot, and drinks it 1/
Got to hand it to the government. They said they were going to reduce the civil service wage bill. Didnt think it was going to be on ministerial and PPS salaries though....
@OxfordDiplomat
Comparative European Government, as an English Study Abroad student, when studying in the US. For the simple fact of seeing their view of the UK system and how they taught it. Not the best taught, but one of the most eye opening.
@timricketts_
I usually find the follow up question "When was the last time you saw a doctor?" and a full history and obs usually weeds out some of that.
@hayleymagill
I expect this will be the year Aus and NZ healthcare will run their best recruitment campaigns, without actually doing anything. As the NHS is doing such a good job for them....
After 2 shifts of not seeing another crew as didn't need an ambulance, 2 crew assists yesterday. Its nice to see crews and help them navigate the alternative care pathways. Even had time to show one of the student paras on placement, what extra kit we carry.
@drchriscarson
Have to say my surgeon didn’t write an end date on mine and tucked it into my splint so I had it when I came round. Not that my boss really cared. They knew I had had the op.
Today marks the last event for me as a
@BritishRedCross
volunteer. It's been a blast. It has literally changed my life from being a non medical person to being possibly the last operational
@brc_para
. It's been an honour to be a part of this amazing team 1/2
gonna be honest. I don't think we in
@Ldn_Ambulance
@metpoliceuk
@LondonFire
are following our own advice. Congregating on a bridge is very sweet, but not essential travel. Shall we stop it now and leave it now till after lock down?
@x_abbdesmond
Me: So whats happening?
Them: I have a cough, temperature, sweats, and I can't smell anything
Me: So you have Covid
Them: Nah mate, the little test says I'm negative
Me: The little test that is for asymptomatic people and you have all three symptoms?
@Brick_Cop
@metpoliceuk
Reports of patient being "Very Stabbed" and "Conscious, not breathing"... Might not have been radio, but originated with yourselves.
@NatashaMDay
Some locals realised that as they lived next to the local hospital, if one of them acted unconscious and they called 999, we take them to the ED, they then all walked out 10min later.
Then we decided to take them the other way to a different hospital, which had no transport.....
@steve_paramedic
The pole from the Kendrick traction device, has a nice right angle on the end to use as a hook, for the days you don't have a student.
So today, possibly for the last time the people of Kent will be served by a
@BritishRedCross
ambulance. Over 100 years of history of volunteers and staff finished. I owe a lot of my career to the grounding this opportunity gave me.
@kejamieson_
Here is an unsolicited picture of a martello tower from 1815 which you could hide away in when you really cba with the world. At certain times of the year you can replace people with talking to seals, otherwise its sheep and seagulls for company.
@EastCoast_Para
Not gonna lie, I made it through all our undergrad without learning the cranial nerves. Managed to remember them all for a week in the run up to my CRIPPA L7 OSCE's and now theyve all gone again.
@hayleymagill
As an HCP looking in. I am frankly amazed anyone makes it to consultant. I am sure Ofqual, OFSTEAD and the CMA, would have a field day if they did an investigation
@ianwood1992
@jackgkennedy
So you ram all their hours into less days, so then they have no cover on other days?
Finite number of staff still the issue.
@abbdesmond
On the other hand, it might stop another person being assaulted, and another ambulance being tied up. Hopefully there is another single somewhere who can be put on.
Big thanks to
@OxleasNHS
Fiona on the crisis line yesterday for her help answering my unusual request. Helped avoid hospital and police involvement.

@Ldn_Ambulance
@McGuinnessNJ
@pkonline84
Some of the problem is that you are accurate, the public however are not, so get massively over triaged. I spend a lot of my time in the control room ringing calls back and updating them. At least its not all HCP = C4, like it seemed to be pre ARP
@kejamieson_
They use to say to me "Won't be long and we'll be at yours"
They stopped when I said the same thing at a funeral.....
(This is a joke, I'm not quite this heartless)
@parthaskar
Won't get rid of the problem completely. I rotate through a GP surgery, am sat there in green with paramedic on me, wearing a paramedic ID card, people walk in, and say "Hello Doctor". Likewise, I worked with a nurse on a ambulance car. Says nurse on their uniform.
@Medic_Russell
When you started paying it back you needed to be on something like 50k a year to be paying off the actual debt rather than just the accruing interest. With rising inflation and interest rates, that's only going to get higher
@georgebellstarr
What is the point of HCPC approved courses if you then have to sit an exam? Surely the point of the HCPC approval process is to make sure graduates of said courses meet a minimum standard. If you introduce an exam, then you may as well remove HCPC approval.
@NatashaMDay
To paraphrase Christian Bale. "If people have a problem, they should call me. If they don't have my number, they don't know me well enough to have a problem" Twitter is not the same as calling.
This is it. Today the end of a long & proud history of
@BritishRedCross
providing event first aid. We welcome in 2020, & sadly say good bye to a service we all love. From all the
@brc_para
we thank everyone that supports us in the delivery of care. Thank you till we meet again.
@HealthRegLawyer
So the ones I was expecting to come across your desk was where the clinician said the PPE provided was not satisfactory, where as it met PHE requirements. Such as when we went from FFP3 and tyvek, to surgical and plastic apron. And wondered what had changed.
@RoyalFamily
Not the first in the family. His father, was a keen diver and president of the British Sub Aqua Club, a role which the King has also held.
@abbdesmond
If they say they aren't there or nipping out and want to know when they need to be back, I end the call with worsening of go to UCC if concerned.
If an air traffic controller works no more than 2hours before a break, why are health care professionals doing 12hours with no guaranteed break or multiple days on call...
#BASICS2019
@Parody_RCGP
I use to call it the Goldilocks principle. Not unwell enough teams would tell me to refer to GP. Too unwell and needed intervention, remove them under capacity to ED to be assessed by PLN. 14months and I can count on one hand the number of successful referrals to some teams
@RebuildGP
@Jeremy_Hunt
Why do the expensive hospitals need the protection and help? Why not the clinicians seeing most of the patients and most of the risk. Ie the GPs
@Sam_Imber
@OcoRory
@NatashaMDay
I once had a stroke pt, whose airway was basic maneuvers only as otherwise snoring, and wouldn't tolerate anything else. Pushed out the way by ED Reg, who tried unsuccessfully to use adjuncts. Nothing worked. Had to RSI to get in scanner. Wouldn't listen when I tried to explain1
Not sure what to feel at the moment, Last night was last shift on road for a while as I move to EOC as a Clinical Adviser. Strange time to be moving, and will definitely be throwing myself in at the deep end. My first shift on an ambulance was during an major incident, so to 1/
@DrLindaDykes
@LucyGoBag
Having also been a clinician in control, I too have put people in taxis. I guess the difference in some cases is at what point are we telling people to get in taxis. Some examples appear to be call taker, rather clinician lead. So do services need to ring back those that are 1/
@Medic_Russell
Same for Ambulance crews with 111. Even clinician referrals. You are moaning about someone who has made an assessment, pretty much using only their ears. Even if you walk in and they look well, you have more info than someone on a phone.
@DrLizHerrieven
@OneLongPlait
I taught kids in wheel chairs. Did you know that many of them can take the side off their chair, park next to the patient and use the side, turned through 90 degrees to give chest compressions.?
When I was a student I turned up with baked goods to make it easier to get signatures. Now I tend to keep chocolate on me to help after stressful jobs. Yesterday colleague told me I have effectively succeded in pavlovs dog, as she craves chocolate when she sees me.......
@KHoulgate
Nqp is a massive missed opportunity and one that just adds stress to your first two years. I'm not sure if it's more us being cynical about it or employers not knowing how to do it properly.
@kejamieson_
One of the Open Golf Championships in Scotland one year, had a sign saying Haggis Hunting trips. Not guaranteed to see a Haggis. Basically a bloke charging tourists for walks round a hill....
@Ageing90sKid
Having worked on one, I would argue is does need to be a para, as it gives more flexibility when assessing the dual physical/Mental health needs of the patient. Paras tend to have access to greater community referral pathways, and leeway when it comes to non conveyance.
