Personally feel like PAs should document their supervisors number and name for patient interactions. See how quickly the supervising consultant will allow them to go from seeing undifferentiated patients back to a more assistant role then, no need for regulation.

To this day I remember a patient coming in with liver mets of unknown origin to AMAU. I referred to the acute inpatient oncology service, the PA I had supervised who was “specialising” at the time in respiratory just 4 months earlier showed up.1/

The post-nominals means we've completed the course, passed the certification exam (on top of our university exams), and remain in good standing by keeping up with the necessary CPD requirements.

Crazy thought, a doctor with 5/6 years medical school, 2 years foundation training, one year as a GPST1 - could in theory have their first day as a GP the same day as a PA, at their first day as a PA student with two years plant biology undergrad. Both would have two years left.

Im genuinely just at a loss? Medicine in the last 10 years is lost beyond recognition. What even is the point? Random number generator for medical students? Paid worse than assistants, shafted across the UK and now it’s undignified to regard yourself by your earned title

Our neighbouring health board has PAs In microbiology. Beyond the crazy competition ratios, what are they offering ?? You need expertise or ability to prescribe - being paid band 7/8 to be the equivalent of a voicemail at present.

The gall to think you’re a pilot in this scenario. Man is a PT who then did a two year unaccredited course quoting research form people with COI. When asked to quote the evidence “it’s all been taken down” like it’s some sort of conspiracy, not horrendous manipulation

This. This always bugged the life out of me, “alternative perspectives” lead us into the field of quackery. My niece could look at a hospital and say a different opinion to mine, it doesn’t make it remotely helpful!! A consistent work force could be IMG/ SG doctors!

Non-doctors paid up to £154/hr to cover doctors during strikes, while F1s earn just £15/hr
Doctors don't get these rates when covering for sick colleagues
Bribing non-doctors to work outside their scope risks their registration

they aren’t partially trained medics, most (>60%) were rejected from medicine, they do a primary degree then have a 2 year unaccredited unregulated degree with minimal contact times and a MASSIVE pass with distinction rate. It’s the next post office scandal

Independent autonomous practitioners but under supervision. Dr isn’t accountable for their mistakes but is. Can’t locum or work as a PA but they only work to our model, this is a goldmine for future medical litigation

Consultants like this make me proud of my profession. Movements like these and the BMA. Too long have we lay down and taken it because of oaths, hero complexes and self flagellation. We are very educated and motivated. Let’s demand our pay and let’s overhaul the GMC.
