It’s not representative of the experience of the majority. Courses were not standardised any more than medicine but quality assurance is underway with GMC regulation approaching.

According to the lecturer who taught physiology on my particular PA course, physiology comprised about 25% of the academic studies and we were tested in it. He also teaches medics and says we covered almost the same, enough for clinical decision making.

You’re overlooking the fact that the majority of PA students have at least a 2.2 (usually higher as entry is competitive) BSc as mature students. Many have years of NHS experience too.

Thank you for clearing that up, but it was worth asking being as number of years training appears to be such an issue. PAs receive an appropriate length of training for their role. They are not training to be doctors.

GP practice (when you are designated a GP registrar), there is a fixed additional payment which is £9,144 for the current year pro rata. PAs are on equivalent to band 6/7 usually, but may progress to 8a as Lead PA. I know PAs who have worked at band 4. Please back your comments.

Have you trained as a PA? If not, how do you consider yourself qualified to comment on an intensive 2-year (ie usually around 96 weeks, full-time) training, at the end of which university exams have to be completed successfully before being entered for the national PA exams?

And so are/were the pharmacists, social prescribers, nurse practitioners, paramedics? All there to do paperwork while GPs are looking after patients? Maybe it would be an idea for people who never worked with a PA to keep their opinions to themselves.

Adam’s opinion is wholly ungeneralisable. Many if not most PA courses have a vast focus on physiology, anatomy, immunology etc. though content has previously been shown to vary prior to QA by GMC.
