Please tell me this isn’t true. If it is, it’s an absolute disgrace. We have the best public health network/partnership in the country. Are they really going to penalise us for being the best
Time after time the NE has responded magnificently to the challenge. Every time, the government has held us back. Tied both hands behind our back. This will not be forgotten
Lockdown aren’t a panacea. The virus remains a threat. LD’s are an opportunity to get TT&T system in place to control the threat. The NE has the labs/expertise to effectively test. We have the skills/experience to T&T. Sack the contractors, build the local PH network
Our teachers are hero’s. In Gateshead every school has been open throughout the crisis supporting the children of key workers, visiting vulnerable children at home and delivering urgently needed food, even during the Easter holidays. They’re hero’s, all of them.
This is a disgraceful headline by the Mail, an obvious attempt to divide people & we mustn’t let that happen: all workers are entitled to safe workplaces. A rushed, unsafe reopening of schools affects us all. That’s what is at the heart of teacher’s concerns, not self-interest.
Do you really not know what’s going on? Gateshead Council together with our schools, have supported our most vulnerable children throughout. We’ll of course do so again through this holiday. Just stop trying to score points and get behind supporting Gateshead
After the Government's refusal to support struggling families during these unprecedented times, Councils; including Newcastle & Portsmouth, are stepping up to help in the school holidays.
We ask
@MartinGannon002
and
@gateshead
to consider this.

Note for any Daily Mail readers. Our teachers are already hero’s. All Gateshead schools have been open throughout the current crisis, supporting children of key workers and regularly visiting vulnerable children at home. Hero’s all.
It's

Day on Wednesday so if you know someone who'd like to thank someone from their school then our colouring pages may help.
Don't forget to share your coloured in pictures with us & your schools as we'd all love to see them

Need to listen very carefully to what I actually said. I and the other NE leaders genuinely care. We live here. We have vulnerable relatives and friends too. We need to win people’s confidence and support to the current measures which are beginning to work.
@MartinGannon002
Cases rising deaths rising although a lag. Hospitality showing as a major cause of spread as explained by the Chief Scientist you know best. Hope you can sleep at night, hope none of your elderly relatives have to suffer from this. Playing politics in a pandemic is disgraceful
LIVE: Jamie Driscoll named new North of Tyne mayor . Congratulations to Jamie. Gateshead looks forward to working with the North Tyne Combined Authority
Fantastic day. Started with announcement at INVEST GREAT BRITAIN stand. Gateshead 1 of only 5, from over 80 applicants, awarded Furture Place support. Followed by presentation of progress on Gateshead Quays, Baltic Quarter and further development opportunities across GATEHEAD.
Gateshead Council in partnership with our schools has supported our most vulnerable children throughout the crisis. Including supplying packed lunches to FSM children self isolating. Our staff are working through the weekend to step up the service to all children on FSM
Just wondering. How many thought that tonight our PM looked at the top of his game. In control. Decisive. Clear leadership? How many thought he looked bewildered, without a plan or strategy, except for the one worked out on the back of a fag packet?
Brilliant. I’ll tell that to the head teachers in Gateshead that can’t get their staff tested and the managers of our hospitals who are increasingly having the same problem. I’m sure we all feel much better
I didn’t choose for Gateshead to have £179m of cuts from central government every year. But the Lib Dem’s did whilst in coalition government with the tories 2010-2015.
@KiMcGuinness
Thank you everyone for your kind words. I’m delighted to be asked by Kim. She’s a truely inspirational mayor with an ambitious programme. Can’t wait to get started. Love you all.
My first duty of care is to the residents of Gateshead and, sadly, today has been another difficult day.
@MattHancock
please invest in NHS testing capacity - we have the local knowledge and expertise if you can provide resource
The Lib-Dems in Gateshead know exactly why we’re investing in The Quays/Baltic Quarter. Investment, growth, income. Why at elections do they abandon all principles, misrepresent the truth, talk down Gateshead? Completely unprincipled.
Invest Gateshead - Development Opportunities via

. This is part of the reason why Gateshead has invested in a new car park on Gateshead Quays/Baltic Quarter. Lib-Dems know that, say they support investment into Gateshead. Prefer to misrepresent.
This makes my blood boil. Even with an extra £30bn, HS2 doesn’t come remotely near the North East. We need transformational investment in our transport infrastructure. East Coast Mainline, The Metro, buses, park&ride, cycle and pedestrian networks.
Boris Johnson backs high-speed Leeds to Manchester rail route. Does he not know where the north east is? We need an urgent upgrade of the east coast mainline.
You are welcome to give us your full and considered opinion on how to deal with the fact, unavoidable, that the Tyne Bridge by 2021 needs to reduce to one lane in each direction.
@MayorJD
Sorry Jamie but this is shallow. Do you really want me to quote on here the disgraceful increase in child poverty on your patch (Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland) during your time in office. I could. However, I’m intelligent enough to know that it’s not your fault.
I went to the official opening on Friday evening. Absolutely fantastic resource for local people. Well done to everyone involved in the lottery bid and who’ve helped to make this project happen.
Councils are facing a £10bn black hole as the government is breaking its pledge to fund the cost of the coronavirus, and now face having to make in-year cuts of over 20% to local services and jobs.

All the data for Gateshead is published online every day. Any member of the public can scrutinise the data. Just as every school can examine the data and determine what’s safe for their staff and pupils.
Shipping containers 'used to house homeless children'. In which alternative universe is this considered a reasonable way to treat anyone, let alone children?

Thanks for the “enhanced support”. The mobile testing unit that you promised to Gateshead didn’t arrive this morning, despite apologies, no date when it will. Can I invite you to explain to the entire NE what exactly your “enhanced support” entails
I’m now beyond furious. Weeks of meaningless negotiations. They told us we’d find out what support we’d get this Wednesday, then it’s Friday. Today they put out a press release saying we’ll get something but we’ll not be told what it is until next week. It’s complete contempt.
FT reporting that government announcement of bailout for Tyne and Wear Metro (

that it might not be the £10m Nexus asked for to help cover £900k-a-week losses:
Clear message to government. “Levelling up means reopening the Leamside, thereby increasing ECML capacity and facilitating expansion, transforming the T&W Metro to the NE Metro. Economic growth and tackling congestion, air quality and climate change
Hi Kim. Just listened to the BBC Hustings. Well done. Not an easy formate but you were very good. Have to say that outside of a friendly audience, that’s less gullible to his outrageous claims, he was floundering. Keep up the good work. You’re winning through.
On 2nd May, we’ll elect our first North East Mayor.
I love our North East, I know you do too.
Together, we can make our region the home of real opportunity, so everyone can thrive, not just those at the top.
