My take on this week's growth announcements that seemed heavily focused on the South East.

Two former North East Labour MPs have been nominated to the House of Lords. They are former Sedgefield MP Phil Wilson who lost his seat in 2019, and former Sunderland Central MP Julie Elliott who stood down at the 2024 election.

@covidanarchy @beasley_tr48623 @timfarron @efoody @Gibbo4Darlo I gather there was a technical problem which means they were unable to broadcast the Yorkshire programme, so the North West would be the fallback, but they are looking to get it on to iPlayer later.

@grumpynskeptic @timfarron @efoody @Gibbo4Darlo Hi. My post was referring to the North East & Cumbria version of the show from Newcastle which I present. I gather there was a problem with the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire show which they are aiming to get onto iPlayer later.

Sunderland Central MP @LewisAtkinson is one of 23 MPs who will sit on the Assisted Dying Bill committee in the next stage of scrutinising the proposed change in the law. He was among MPs who voted for the Bill last month. The committee includes both supporters and opponents.

'Farming payment cuts will ruin our sons' dream'. A Budget decision that’s had much less coverage than Inheritance Tax - a big drop in Basic Payments that are vital to make farms viable. I met the Staleys who are worried hill farming may soon be history.

@mt_tsas Hi Martin. We have three Conservative MPs in our patch. One of them is Rishi Sunak. Kevin Hollinrake is on soon. As for Mayors, Ben Houchen is a regular. We can't use them every week! With 36 programmes a year, that leaves us with councillors, who make valuable contributions.
