There are clearly some candidates more local than others - but best I've found so far is Ed Punchard, the Brexit Party candidate in Tynemouth. His address is listed on his nomination as East Fremantle in Western Australia. A mere 9,000 miles from the constituency. #GE2019

Ron was one of the loveliest people I dealt with. I used to look forward to interviewing him. He would answer the tough questions, but you could also enjoy his company. He was an exceptional Police and Crime Commissioner, but more than that a great guy. A true public servant.

One point that might strike northern communities. In the first wave, when Covid was initially a bigger problem in London than the North we went into national lockdown. When it’s more of a problem in the North, lockdown is more local. More focused perhaps but politically awkward.

Labour in the North East are losing to Brexit-backing parties in some places; referendum-supporting parties in others. Message so far cannot be seen as an endorsement of its current Brexit balancing act stance. #LocalElection2019

Another fall in unemployment in the North East - the largest proportionally in the UK - and the region now has a lower rate than either London or the West Midlands, though still above the UK average.
