@hollowearthterf A societal feature, not a bug. American and British men reserve best friend status for their wives, allowing them to grow up properly (having lots of male friendships past your early 20s is loser behaviour) and focus on building a family (and not losing their best friend).

The entirety of the AI field is blind to the binding problem and takes for granted that agentic, goal-oriented AGIs akin to conscious biological GIs are Turing computable. Superintelligence will be wet, squishy, and AI-augmented. Machine gods and EMs are probably fantasies.

Biocomputing is the path to full-spectrum AGI. Amazingly, EA overlooks this despite massive s-risks, the rats overlook this despite x-risks (agentic AGI running a phenomenally-bound world-simulation), and e/acc overlooks this despite early movers here being the next OpenAI.

So! Most modern definitions of "evil" essentially come down to "refusal to participate in a designated-brahmin's virtue signaling game". Once you notice that this is true, and really accept that it's true, the game board shifts, and you start seeing things much more clearly.

Nah, discipline is completely overrated. So is self-help and getting serious and any mindset that isn't "I can just do things. There is nothing stopping me but the size of my own balls."

You can't acquire discipline. All the self-help books. All the motivational speakers. Completely useless. You either have the rage or you don't. You're either serious about your life or you're worthless.

Universal income, but brand it as the American Dream Entrepreneur's Venture Capital Fund and focus entirely on the increased business creation messaging, because striving for greatness goes over better with voters.

@djjr If we got true and robust wealth redistribution it could end up being a lot like the Jane Austen novels. Even better, because we'll have a lot better entertainment than plays and card games. That is definitely not the default outcome, though, and we'll have to put in a lot of

The more power you have, the stronger this effect becomes. It doesn’t even need to be conscious on the part of the influencers. Almost no one has the control and integrity which would allow them to prevent the power from coloring what they say to the Emperor.

I am a degenerate with a taste for novel qualia, a worshipper of the goddess of tits and wine, and a cold and calculating Machiavellian. Good luck cancelling someone with no preening pretensions at moral superiority; I only accept judgement on whether my world-model is accurate.

Sad to hear Sam Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years by Judge Kaplan, a draconian sentence relative to Judge Wood's sentencing of the comparable Michael Milken. Longer sentences do not deter crimes, and Kaplan seems entirely unresponsive to FTX creditors facing full repayment.

What we really mean is Cluster B (borderline, histrionic) women and the answer is why women are attracted to Cluster B (sociopathic, narcissistic) men: Because we want to pass on evil winner traits to our spawn. Nice guys and good girls produce soft children who get curbstomped.

Economic decline, population decline and multiple sources of existential risk lurk in our near-term future. It makes sense to encourage (and instantiate, be) high memetic variance in such conditions; experimental cultures with radically different approaches might right the ship.

Superior people see in anti-Semitism the same forces that gave rise to socialism: low IQ plebs seething in resentment over high IQ winners.

Napoleon hated the Papal States for how they treated Jews. He liberated them, tried to bring more Jews in, and gave them power over Christians. His Mediterranean background gave him contempt for that culture. Superior people often identify with Jews over their own group.

@algekalipso Counterpoint: That was not my experience on DMT. I enjoyed the ego dissolution (and the lingering "softness"/"openness"/"the magnitude of his own folly was laid bare"), and the thought of attributing those divine experiences to something like resting state ego was dirty.

@glpat99 I am pretty far from an altruistic angel. Joined LW in 2010, naturally led to EA. Effectiveness was the appeal, rationality the zeal. It's a strange, monolithic framing of a very intellectually diverse community of thinkers.

So EA is selling the Wytham abbey. An incredible loss for them, if you ask me - but one wouldn't expect that group to really know the value of aesthetics and of place. Someone should give me the money to buy it. I'll turn it into a school the likes of which has never been seen
