Is this a joke about unrealistic expectations for PhD students?
Because 21 years times 12+4+12=28 issues per year times let’s say 10 articles per issue would be 5,880 articles. That’s more than 60 papers per day for a 3 month period
When I was in 3rd year of PhD, I read every paper published in AER, QJE, JPE from 2000-2020, bc I wanted to get a sense of what everyone was working on. It took I think 3 full time months, spread out over half a year or so? Was great and gave me a bunch of useful perspective

Interesting work! And related to my JMP: we show that women’s earnings drop after marriage = the marriage earnings gap. We account for children, use admin (🇩🇪) & survey data (🇪🇺), decompose the gap, and analyze mechanisms behind it.
Stay tuned for a longer thread later this fall!
(8/10) For a subset of countries, we are also able to measure a “marriage” penalty, and investigate how both childbirth and marriage separately contribute to the trajectory of gender inequality.

The train is going pretty slow. Of course no surprise — how else to spend 9hours for a straight 300mi/500km? For reference, Munich-Berlin and Munich-Cologne that I travel a lot in Germany are both ≈ 400mi/600km with fastest train options 4h00 & 4h30

Before entering the train, everyone has to stop by the train conductor. They ask everyone where they go, decide about the seat number (no clue how they do it) and then write the number + destination on a small piece of paper.

Because there is no displays or announcements of current delay, I have no idea when I’m gonna arrive. Scheduled arrival was about 20 minutes ago. To find out, you can either approximate using Google maps or ask the conductor but they also have a rough estimate only.

It’s easy to loose track of time and space in the train. There is no display with train infos anywhere. There is also no pre recorded announcements. Every now and then an employee announces that we’ll reach the next stop in a couple of minutes. I

Studierende vor mir unterhalten sich darüber dass Person X gar keinen richtigen Abschluss habe sondern irgendwas was Diplom heißt. Einer wirft ein er glaube das sei früher ein richtiger Abschluss gewesen. Damit ist die Bologna Reform wohl offiziell erfolgreich abgeschlossen.

I volunteered several times in polling stations for different elections in Germany. The number one issue was men who wouldn’t want to accept that they cannot go into the voting booth with their wife. Apparently men often feel entitled to know (control?) their spouses‘ voting 🤡
