POTS doctor here, I am 100% with you. He is wrong. POTS is not rare. It is rare to find doctors that are up to date on their POTS knowledge. Please keep advocating for yourself 🙏
Another year, another great Dysautonomia International Conference. I am speaking on emerging therapies & learning from experts in to help my patients fight this horrible illness. So grateful my health is good enough to do all of this.

This really infuriates me. It might seem like a small thing but it shows how attending just get away with doing anything to Med Students and treated like sub-human objects. You’re not allowed to ask someone to not ruin your notebook. It’s very symbolic
@EM_RESUS
Yup. An EM attending told me about a pt with this chief complaint & no other findings. Begged to get admitted to tele floor. Coded in middle of night. Good outcome because they were on the tele floor⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was a resident who reported. Everyone at the institution let me down & did everything they could to destroy me. I hired a lawyer & went to law school to change things. The change does not happen fast enough.
These resources are less than what you deserve but they are a start:

My family has been in Florida for most of the pandemic. “Lockdown” was 1-2 weeks & people were still mingling. Masks have never been prevelant there. Florida has been precaution free and yet children’s hospitals are overflowing. It ain’t immunity debt
I’m a newly registered nurse. I’ve been working for three months. As of today, they are asking to deploy me to the ICU because of the increasing ICU demands. I will be the first to tell you that I am not prepared for this. This is not safe. This should tell you how bad it is.
To all of you out there who are sad you didn’t match your

Just because some people do a job a certain way doesn’t mean it is an essential function of the job. ADAAA requires the essential functions not any function. Schedule changes are a long established reasonable accommodation. Some people love nightshift & happily take the month
@allietrann
@EnnnDeee
It is terrible. I have questioned this for years. My theory is that it starts with toxic Med culture. We are taught to work 36 hour shifts & roll pony tails up in the car window to make it home. That toxic “push through” philosophy becomes ingrained & applied to patients.Terrible
@sarahbellumPA
I wonder why healthcare workers are burnout out? Our expectation is only that they keep working 24/7 until they die. Is that unreasonable?

Oh my god. My suggestion is to make no statements & lead her to the truth with questions. I was taught this by a great oncologist who taught me to get patients to process issues deeply.
Obvi it worked out because I LOVED law school & ended up finishing residency at Hopkins but it was a journey.

Thank you for sharing this experience. I wish the attendings would be mindful of this when setting expectations for students & residents. If they don’t get the info, they get pummeled in their scores. Meanwhile this is the pt experience 😞

“Most of the medical community” translates to his physician friend circle. He is 100% wrong.

has shown many hard findings in long- Covid. This guy hasn’t stayed up to date on his literature. You can get better care than this.
@jtrebach
Same but it was Situs inversus. I was the only one who didn’t lie about hearing it. The favorite students failed the test so they pretended it never happened🙄🙄🙄There is some BS I can’t participate in, no matter how much my survival depends on it.
@blondenerdx
First graders get treated with more kindness. This is meant to break your will. I am sorry our training system is so cruel. You deserve better 🙏
@dysclinic
The arrogance of them to believe that medical science is done explaining every disease process. Also very interested how they are saying FND is not a disease process????👀👀👀 I will once again remind everyone that MS was called hysterical paralysis until the invention of MRI
@AAMCtoday
This article is ableist. My disabilities prevent every single suggestion in this. Also the $ that I had to pay to my own institution for my medical treatment pushed my bills up. I refuse to take the blame for this system that I did not build
@ShaneyWright
It is astounding. Please don’t give up. Not all of us physicians are like that. We are trying to work together as fast as we can to learn & help patients. We know this is catastrophically real🙏
@olsonplanner
A perversion of the Socratic method. Attendings ask questions to confirm whatever hierarchy they want. Ask easy questions to the favorites & impossible ones to someone you want to break down. Totally not methodical. All about dominance & crushing self esteem

I was a Med student. 6 month old only ounces more than birth weight. Seen by every specialist service. No Dx. I noted a true basophilia & proposed atypical milk protein allergy. Baby ⬆️pounds immediately & thrived. Attending NEVER said “good job”& refused to write me a letter 🫠
@ChrisMCanDO
I wish I could say it would be the last but we both know that is not true. Never forget that this is not ok. Don’t let it dull your own moral compass. We have to break the cycle & make a better future!
@LindseyMarie_xo
For what it is worth, in my experience almost 100% of people who have researched and believe they have POTS, do in fact have it. Keep looking for someone who will actually help you 👏
@MaddieMierMD
It is a constitutional right of the states to control health & safety licensing (10&11th amendment). The states can voluntarily make a compact to allow universal licensing. It will always be the states choice.

For the record, I have seen long Covid cases that were fine after 1st infection & have horrendous long Covid after 2nd. A first infection doesn’t not tell you about a response to a 2nd.

Becker Spine Review in November 2020 reported that "female orthopedic surgeons earn on average $122,677 per year less than their male counterparts, according to Doximity's 2020 physician compensation report." It is not 'greedy' to ask for fair pay. It is time to close this gap.

If there is fetal cardiac activity these laws are written to make the pregnant person disposable. It is not about life, it is about subjugation of women. Pregnant people are just disposable incubators to them. That is how the laws are written

I was watching investigation discovery yesterday, and a guy was confessing to murder of a young woman. He called himself a good guy during his confession. “ he just made a bad decision.” To me, it was the ultimate summation of the good guy thing.

One thing I forgot to mention. I have heard these painful morning pre-rounds justified because it is “better for the patient” & no matter how much it damages trainees we have to do what is best for the patient....So who really is driving this 🧐

To everyone on here invalidating your concerns about an abusive environmental: 1. There is a huge burnout suicide problem w/ the current system—> don’t protect it- look for ways to improve 2. Trainees have some of the best perspective because they have not yet normalized th abuse
@BeingDrBernice
If you watch certain news stations they are directly telling people that getting the antibodies after infection is the same as vaccination. Killing your viewers seems like a bad strategy to me but I don’t make the rules

Not ortho here but got into program way above my league. Networking is everything. I went to conferences that were geographically close to me for free by email organizers and asking if I could volunteer. Organizers also know a lot of people
@iamn0tthe1
Thank you for this post. This is a big problem. I have had attendings get mad at me for respecting patients wishes. Which was shocking but now I know it is coming. The patient is the boss! It is their body. Respect that
@Mariavee
I am so sorry. I hate this so much. I gave up several priceless moments for Med training. But did it at least help someone? No. But did it at least make me a better doctor? Also no. Probably made me worse. The system needs to change

Exactly. It has long term psychologic impacts. I think one of these is how we treat patients & think about problems. The fruit of the poisonous tree. We need better health philosophy from root to fruit.
@RNSuperHero
It is astounding that they don’t understand they need to care about the health & safety of healthcare workers!!! They are so used to healthcare workers showing up despite the worst abuse, they have completely taken them for granted. These are real people who need safety & a voice
@AmyPearsonMD
Truth. A wise Midwest attendings taught me that open ended is for first 2 min. It gives the patients a chance to relax & feel heard. After 2 min the guided portion starts. It was very helpful
@AdenaZadourian
