I've seen many patients adamantly opposed to COVID vaccine who then come in seeking monoclonal antibodies. I'm non-judgementally trying to make sense of this. If one doesn't trust an injection that boosts their own antibodies, why do you trust an infusion of external antibodies?

I always think about being the "cool" doctor who goes on first name basis with my patients.
But I've witnessed women, Black & Latinx physicians give excellent care to patients who later complain that they "were never seen by a doctor."
So I always introduce myself as "Doctor"

Have you ever clicked with ppl so unexplainably quickly that you swear you've known them for yrs? I can't verbalize how deeply my new emergency medicine classmates & I have built a family. I feel free & totally myself when we're together. I love & trust all of them & that's rare!

I was able to lower the Bipap mask of my patient w/ COVID for 5 seconds, enough time for him to blow a kiss to his family via iPad and say "I love you all!"
He passed away the next day. His family, even in their devastation, told us they were so happy for that last memory.

In my past ONE month at our predominantly white & wealthy community ER site I've seen more 85yr+ patients (some even live independently!) than I've seen my NINE months at our main ER serving mostly Black & poor patients.

One of the best decisions I made before starting the residency application process was to apply for a strong travel credit card a year in advanced. Med school is full of uncountable random expenses, may as well get travel points from them and use them for flights to interviews.

Yall I did my first thoracentesis (bedside drainage of fluid around the lungs) and I was so nervous but my senior walked me through it so smoothly and my patient's breathing improved right in that moment and it was a great feeling!

The best part of graduating med school during quarantine was that I got the chance to be hooded by my Wonderwoman of a mother 🙏🏾! If my in-person ceremony had not been canceled, she would not have been allowed to hood me since she's not a physician. 1/
