If guys like this were in charge of BG3, karlach wouldn't be buff, lae'zel would be a generic hot woman only green, and shadowheart would have E cups and a chainmail bikini.
Their design sensibilities are just "what if every game had one of those cheap porn mods pre-installed?"

To be clear I'm not trying to be a prude, I'm not against sexy characters, and I'm not trying to shame women with these proportions irl. I'm saying that chasing a narrow version of hotness as the only design goal for all female characters would trample many great designs.

For those still confused, I'm also not saying the game looks like a porn mod. I'm saying the OP is the kind of person who downloads porn mods to replace every female character in most games because the default models are too "ugly" (i.e. not sexualised or exaggerated enough)

Good question! Yes, all fossils are technically transitional because everything is always evolving. But in this context we're talking about a set start point (terrestrial mammal similar to extant ruminants) and a set end point (modern whale), so transitional is anything between.

Not a big environment guy but from what I gather, getting the most of texture budgets using trims, decals, vertex paint etc is a super useful skill to be able to demonstrate.

When I briefly tried to teach myself coding I started out by making a simple platformer. It was going ok until I tried to make it so you could walk smoothly up stairs without jumping...
I spent *hours* with a platformer where touching a staircase launched you into the sky 😅

I found myself genuinely liking a lot of the characters, and wanting to go on more adventures with them in the DLC or whatever. Arven especially has some really effective writing.
It's a far cry from Hop who made me sigh inwardly whenever he showed up to bug me.

Eh, trailer CG is usually not the final comp. Especially this far out from release.
E.g. that shot with the power suits is 100% gonna get a lighting/colour grading pass and probably some extra particles and stuff to tie it together.

The trend of studios badmouthing vfx to score cheap points whilst behind the scenes they constantly push for more shots and shorter deadlines seriously pisses me off.
They kill off whole vfx houses with the endless crunch just to turn around and shit on the entire industry.
VFX artists are so good at their job that, when studios want to erase all the evidence in their behind the scenese footage that they used a ton of VFX, they turn to....VFX artists

Read this, from "letter from Birmingham jail". I'm not sure "colour-blind" was in common use yet but his feelings seem v. clear.
He advocated for some pretty radical changes (e.g. UBI), not just lacklustre acceptance that rarely tips over into actual reform or even advocacy.

The industry already has major problems retaining senior talent because they're all burnt out and exhausted. Which then causes problems with juniors because noone has time to train them, which then causes problems at mid level, etc...
