@DominicEdeoghon @blackemmy @kabirumo9 @cchukudebelu $2.15/day IN THE US IN 2017 is not enough to live on. That's not poverty. It's an absurd metric called "extreme poverty" that is useful because it makes it seem like poverty is going down. But it's a lie.

@expatred66 No, it's a policy choice to make land a salable good and not a right and it had a reason and intent behind it. Most human societies do not do it like that.

@expatred66 Capitalism requires land to be a commodity and prices people out of having land access. That ultimately does the same thing as Enclosure. There is no Commons in capitalism. It's not allowed. You try to do land reform and you get coup'd like Guatemala in 1954.

@expatred66 Capitalism keeps people *in* poverty it *creates* structurally, and is responsible for so much violence it's indescribable. You want history? See the attached page, and look into the 1954 CIA coup against Guatemala for United Fruit that led to horrible deaths of 205,000 people.
