How it started, how it’s going. Immensely talented people get on to training from hard work & dedication not how they look. Other immensely talented peeps take longer, not for reasons of readiness more supply & demand. Others don’t cos they are likely dicks - don’t be a dick

Looking on with dismay recently where the term psychologist is used in media, by some who speak above competence, beyond the evidence or unethically. @PsychSocIreland has recommended that the general term ‘psychologist’ be protected by @CORUIreland rather than psych specialisms

So very true. Trainees and AP’s shouldn’t be expected to fill gaps in services. Time given to nurture and develop talent will result in a well balanced and competent colleague.

COGNITIVE OVERLOAD : when a trainee is learning a new technique, they will reach saturation point much sooner than their experienced trainer Add in the pressure of being watched/assessed & overload can occur even sooner. Encouragement, patience & a short break work wonders

A fascinating thread describing personal insights into attention disorders in adults and the personal experience of psychopharmacology intervention. An essential read for those working with attention disorders and even more so for the many who quickly dismiss the concept.

"I'll give them a score of 1 out of 10..." A lot of #GE2020 candidates are shouting about health care but what are they going to do for mental health? @psychpolis rates each party's offering.

One of the many unjust situations that psychology in ireland has propagated and perpetuated over the years. The diversity within these training cohorts is more obvious than other, but the personal sacrifices are larger and from experience the resultant debt isn’t good for ones MH

Met with @MaryButlerTD as part of a @PsychSocIreland delegation with @psychpolis and PSI Council member Gillian O Brien in mid 2020 to discuss this & other issues. The Minister listened and understood and I’m very grateful she has taken this big step. More to do but a great start

Love this. I’ve no doubt when we have passed through the current crisis, more and more stories about the greatness of humanity will emerge. Acts of kimdness like this will see us through. #StayAtHomeSaveLives #WashYourHands #NotAllHeroesWearCapes

In Spain, a taxi driver was known for taking patients to the hospital, free of charge. One day, he got a call to pickup a patient from the hospital. When he arrived, doctors and nurses surprised him with a standing ovation, plus an envelope of money. 🇪🇸🚕

Hi Vicky, was such a huge pleasure to meet you guys, not to mention the massive honor to give you both the @PsychSocIreland presidential citation. Can’t see my twitter BG changing 😊 Catherine is a huge hero of mine, especially as someone who started out in a place like Tuam.

Catherine Corless is an amazing woman who does what she does purely out of compassion. She is a voice for the voiceless and a beacon of truth and I truly hope that, in the Afterlife, she meets the Tuam babies who she gave voice to ❤ #themeaningoflife @RTEOne @joeliveline

@psychpolis Always wary of anyone labeled or worse self labeled as an expert. I have found this leads to entrenched ideas and a resistance to being incorrect. Sure I’ve expertise, but this allows me to recognize what I know or don’t, and keeps me open to learning from when I get it wrong.

At @HSE_HR #cutitout how apt the idea of the bystander effect is when considering modern psychology. Far too many people aware of problematic behavior in the psychology profession but very few speak out. Always consider @PsychSocIreland code of ethics when we act or not
